GrandOldTeam I like the new site on my PC but on my old Vivaz ( I know, cheapskate ) running Opera Mobile or Mini it's a real step back. It's pretty much unusable in Opera Mobile ( rendering is pants ) and while Mini's better, VBulletin looked much slicker. Is there an option somewhere to try different mobile modes ?
Sorry it's proven a ball ache for you pal, unfortunately there was going to be a small minority who browse on an old phone who would be fair to say their experience is worse for the move.
The reasoning, is vBulletin had a desktop template,
and a mobile template. This was needed because at the time, (before new phones/connectivity) desktop was just way too clunky for mobile.
The mobile template was good for old mobiles because that's what it was built for (created at a time when old mobiles were new).
But, we were seeing a massive swing in Desktop vs Mobile traffic, month after month mobile is catching up on desktop with last month there being 48% of total traffic mobile.
So when planning the future of the forum, we had to evolve with mobile an provide the experience expected. And that's responsive design, in other words, the forum reacts to the device your on (providing the device is relatively recent) and gives the new standard for mobile browsing.
I reviewed the last 1million hits from mobile traffic, looked at the device they was on an planned from there and 95%+ would react to responsive design. The below shows the % weighting against the top 50 devices and you'll appreciate why we have to go with the vast majority and plan to the future.
That all said, what is the exact phone you have, I'll have a look an see what I can do.
