Cahill and next season

Player Valuation: £70m
Now Ive had a few beers and been talking to a good mate about next season and what the possibles are for our starting 11 and ive come to a few assumptions.

Now for one; i love Cahill- he is Everton through and through and I would hate to see him at any other Premiership club BUT it seems he is only effective in a 4-5-1 and I believe the future is 4-4-2 with a strong midfield and front two.

A 4-5-1 says to me that our midfield is not strong enough and that we can only grind out results- a 4-4-2 suggests that we are there to play football and bring it on!

Every starting 11 I come up with doesnt include Cahill and I dont know how to squeeze him in!

i saw Gareth Barry play tonight and I think he really would add to what we have and the fact he can play at left back and left midfield means he will be an asset. My team for next year ( I hope)

Thoughts???:

Same as I have thought for a while, Cahill is a luxary and a curse.

A luxary because he scores bags of goals, a curse because he only fits into a 5 man midfield.

Tell you what, how about -

Howard

Yobo - Stubbs - Lescott

Arteta - Fernandes - Carsley - Barry

Cahill

AJ - Vaughan

3-5-2 baby! :D

1st, cahill is my favourite player. Some of his goals have been great, in every match he will try his best, and he will lift the team. Also he seems to be the only one who can transform artetas freekicks and corners into goal, as no one apart from yobo has. Cahill in the squad enables a rotatory system.

Howard

Neville - Yobo - Stubbs - Lescott

Arteta - Fernandes - Osman/???

Cahill

Johnson - Vaughan/Anichebe

Bench - Turner, Carsley, Hibbert, Mcfadden, Osman preferably

Carsley is good, but now we are in europe we have to look to have a creative midfield. So if we get a left winger, have arteta fernades and the left winger in midfield, with cahill playing just off the attackers.

Tbh i would prefer to play Cahill over any player in the everton squad apart from Howard (cos hes the goalie!!!) and arteta.

Would be brilliant to watch like the days of Ardiles at Sours at Spurs and Keegan at the toon, only trouble is we would probably lost 5-4 every week! Still, would be good to watch!

true true.

Aren't you glad this problem isn't yours?
Also, isn't it nice to have a problem such as this? :)

Whatever the formation, great player to have in the squad which gives Moyes many options for starting lineups and changes during a game.

If we wont to become a great club, we will have to keep the services of Tim, hes crucial to our team.

I like 2 upfront but i would rather accomodate tim in there and let the 2 v-unit's stay on the bench abit this season.

couldnt help it. sorry.

Cahill will almost certainly have a role to play next season for a couple of reasons.

Firstly we'll hopefully have a few more games to play, both in Europe and the domestic cups so having a strong squad will be important, especially in the engine room.

Secondly I expect us to go with 4-5-1 (or variants of) in certain matches, be they against strong sides or away from home. Cahill would be ideal for that.

It's perhaps also worth noting that Australia often play 4 in midfield and he performed very well in that role during the world cup so it's perhaps a little unfair to say he can't play in a 4, I would say it's probably more a case that he's achieved so much success with us as part of a 5 that any analysis of his role in a 4 is inevitably going to be effected by that.

Doubt that Villa would sell Barry, and anyway, we do better to buy a winger with pace. Why not play Cahill up front?
Howard
Neville Yobo Lescott Baines
? Fernandes Carsley/jagielka Arteta
Cahill Johnson

I don't know why but something tells me our Tim might be off in the summer. He's bound to want to go and to play in the Asia Cup - which won't please DM - so we'd have to do without him then anyway. And let's be honest, he gets goals, true, but the team has played some great stuff without him this season and also ended up with a healthy goal difference. Who wants us to go back to 4-5-1? Not me!

I don't think anyone does Pete but there will be times when that system will be preferable and I do think Timmy is adaptable. With the Euro campaign coming on we must think bigger and be prepared for as many eventualities as possible. Selling one of our better players would be stupid unless an offer that was irrestible came in for him, say £15/20 mil, and that won't happen.(y)

How long is on his contract, any one know?

tim is prime for 451, he puts pressure on players when we dont have the ball, his aerial ability gives us options we dont have except in defence and his ability to get forward as the second striker when in possession means we look 442 anyway.

i am really hopeful of seeing tim in the side with fernandes and arteta because of his adaptability, i want to see how the two creative midfielders work with him to create space and chances.
