Cahill and next season

Timmys been doing the rounds on TV over here. He's looking pretty fit and will be in full training in a week or so they say. He was also on Rove Live doing an interview with fellow aussie player Archie Thompson. They room together on trips and are best mates. They told the story how Archie was the first one to score and do the cornerpost attack in celebration.

As for the intricasies of Cahills positioning....mate as long as he's on the park, he'll do the job anywhere.

My feelings entirely, you just can't buy passion McB:lol:

Cahill provides not only passion, but also a bit of grit in the midfield, and unlike Ossie (as much as I admire his passion) who is never really going to set the world alight, Cahill has shown he can perform at both club and country level with style!

Agree there if any one is to go then over Osman I would not shed any tears, he just does not quite seem to be able to make it. So much promise but not enough realised.

Osman is worth keeping I think, purely because he can do ok in all positions across midfield. Hopefully we'll have lots of games next year so that versatility will come in useful. Plus he might even find his niche in Europe where the physical side isn't as important. He's got decent technique so could do well in a less physical atmosphere.

I agree, but we have to be realistic. Osman was mainly used in wide areas last season and whilst that doesn't seem to be the best use of his talents to me I would rather have the option of him there than VDM. I suspect most fans would rather see someone else in that position but we're not really able to make such wholesale changes to the squad right now so for the time being he'll do. I'd love to see him hit the gym over the summer though and get some muscle on him.

Cahill is class and we dont let class go. He will adapt to the 4-4-2 system if need be and you cant put a price on his knack to pop up with important goals. Plus like the rest of the Aussies he's a real competitor and I love that [Poor language removed] in a blue shirt.

Agree with chico and mcbain - Cahill's a much more effective two-way midfielder than some of us give him credit for. We've seen how effective he is in a 451 scheme, so we overlook his other qualities. I do not see any problem with Timmy in a 442. One game for Oz a couple of years ago, he effectively played left midfield - and I do mean effectively, he had a great game.

Cahill on the left? Might be a good idea if he don't drift inwards as often as davies did. Having said that, I can't remember Cahill dribbling past players that often to play well in that position.

It wouldn't surprise me if we didn't have Fernandes and Arteta as the wide men, with Carsley/Jagielka and Cahill in the middle. Arteta was signed as a central midfielder and moved wide so perhaps that's what Moyes has in mind for Fernandes too.

cahill regularly wins headers against 6 foot + grocks, we need his strength and tenacity in the middle.... advanced or otherwise.
