Hello dear Evertonians.

I know it’s a point of pride to consider Everton’s history in the game but with it now being 30 years since the club won a point can we still consider Everton a “big club”? It just seems an ever long cycle of celebrating dinners and token awards like Everton giants for our players who last won something, makes us feel somewhat of a relic. I wonder what other fans and the media really think of Evertonians claim to being a big club.

I ask you to vote with your head than your heart.
That time of year again, Chico?

In overall terms, absolutely. I'd put us anywhere between 5th-8th depending on what criteria people want to judge it on. Id have us 5th based on our League Title wins, Top Flight longevity and support.

In the modern era, we are a big club but sadly only in the same category as the likes of West Ham. Similar to Newcastle and Villa but both will be considered by many to be ahead of us currently with the Champions League qualifications and Newcastle now winning a trophy.

Big club if :

- You support Everton
- You are Gen X or older
- You take into account a clubs entire history rather than their history during your lifetime or specifically the premier league

Not a big club if:

- You don't support Everton
- You are younger than 40
- You are foreign
- You consider regular European football to be a hallmark of a 'big club'

All generalisations but truth to them all IMO

Evertons problem with being viewed as a big club is that during the Premier League boom years (in terms of foreign viewership going through the roof and the league becoming what it is today) we never won or looked like winning anything. Whilst clubs like Chelsea etc grew huge worldwide fanbases we were doing nothing.

I was hoping for a bit of...

"How much of a hinderance is the largesse of entitlement within the Everton support that has continually been the first hurdle fallen at for the club en masse trying to move forwards?"

Something a bit more provocative, with a bit an angst, reflective but also blamey.

Will we be getting similar type threads if unexpected winners emerge in the FA cup and CL and subordinates?
