Phil Neville Superstar

Player Valuation: £35m
Fabio Capello has called time on David Beckham's England career, admitting the 35-year-old is too old to be in his squad.

Beckham, who missed the World Cupthrough injury, has indicated he would like to continue playing for England and be available for the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

However, Capello has revealed the LA Galaxy midfielder is probably surplus to requirements for his country as the Italian looks to blood new young players for the future.

"I say thank you very much for helping me at the World Cup but probably he is a little bit old," Capello told ITV ahead of Wednesday's friendly with Hungary at Wembley.

Beckham has won 115 caps for England since making his debut in 1996 against Moldova.

Beckham is the country's most capped outfield player, but Capello's decision means he will miss out on breaking Peter Shilton'sappearance record.

The former Manchester United star has also played at three World Cup finals for England, but it seems from Capello's admission that the ex-Three Lions skipper has played his last game for his country

Not saying he should be in the squad, but Capello's comment is ridiculously daft. Age doesn't matter, it's the ability that counts.

And too crap, and past it, and not up to standard, and choosing to play in a league not right for a european international. And letting his wife rule his life.

Good riddance to bad press tsunami's.

says the man who tried to get scholes out of retirment!! for the world cup!

He may not be good enough, but it's another mistake by Capello. If Rooney was scoring 30 goals a season when he was 36, would that make him too old for the squad?

Beckham might be a bit old now, but one of the biggest things England missed at the World Cup was service from the midfield. England were trying to play a width game, and you got Lennon and Wright Phillips running into blind alleys and the corner flag. I know he was injured for the world cup, but he is nearly fit. Best crosser in England...not needed.
But we knew Capello knows nothing!

I wouldn't be surprised if Capello backtracks on this sooner or later.

After all, when first appointed he said he would only pick players that were playing regularly and in form. He then took injured players (who therefore were neither playing regularly nor in-form) to the World Cup, as well as picking players like Carragher and Upson who were coming off the back of really poor seasons.

Now he seems to be obeying the nation's desire to rebuild by giving the younger players a chance - in my opinion the right decision, but I'd have got a new coach in too - so I guess it's only a matter of time before he contradicts himself again via his selection of older, past-it players.

As for Beckham, it'll be interesting to see how he recovers from his injury, but certainly before he was injured I'd have had him in my England squad, but not the first XI. He can do a job.

Good he's [Poor language removed]......

Sorry guys think you need to reasses your ability to judge a player. Do i think Beckham should be in the england squad? Must say i am undecided cause i ask the question could anybody or is anybody going to do a better job however this crap about he is [Poor language removed] and that he is crap leads me to think that you obviously don't know anything about football cause if you did i fail to believe this would be the conclusion you would come to. He is clearly not a [Poor language removed] footballer i i cant think of anybody else who can offer us what he does. However for what he has given to his country he deserved to be treated with a lot more respect than what Capello treated him with. If a Everton player served us with distinction for over a decade then was told he was to old on ITV i think as supporters we would think that is no way to reward loyalty. Just my opinion.

right move from capello, becks is just a coverboy, it was hilarious to see how he posed in front of cameras and over acted his reactions. england needs total clearing...+ lampard and gerrard shouldnt be on field at the same time.
