Capello calls time on Beckham "for being too old".

He is too old. Maybe Capello could have been more delicate about it, but English is his second language.

He shouldn't be in the squad but he's far from [Poor language removed].

He definetly deserved more respect than that though.

Too many sarong appreciaters in here. He went to the MLS, his choice. I'd take the last 20 England caps off him, he is no way near one of the greats. That is where the respect is due.

If you know your history remember.

Should not have been at the WC. His status has always far surpassed his footballing ability, and he has been an albatross around the whole squad for some time now. Capello should have let him know personally but then again I don't exactly think he gave Emile Heskey a personal phone call either.

Some right tittish posts in this thread.

If anybody knows anything about football, and put aside their obvious envious eyes and look at the lad's footballing ability then they will see that David Beckham has been and to be honest probably still is the best right sided midfielder this country has had during his time as a professional footballer.

Nobody can cross the ball like Beckham, and I mean nobody can. Nobody can take a corner or a free kick like Beckham can.

So carry on embarassing yourselves by saying he is [Poor language removed], but those who know the game know his abilities and know that he is not [Poor language removed].

And before we all decide to **** him off for playing in the MLS, maybe we should **** Landon off all the same?

I'm with Ghost. Nothing more to say.

Beckham is still factually an awesome player. Yes, awesome

When McClaren dropped him, Becks perhaps had a dip in form (lack of games) but SM was trying to make a point, start a fresh, and it backfired. The man was needed.

Beckham is still a player with World Class ability and technique. Yes he's knocking on, but if you needed someone to come on and win a game, I would choose Beckham over any other player to get us or create a goal, including any striker, maybe even Rooney. Set pieces / delivery is still second to none

Think perhaps Capello just made a gaff, got caught out, or more likely is just a bit of an idiot, but Beckham should still be within a shout and should have been treated a bit better than that

I agree, great footballer. But he's 35 and can't keep himself healthy. I think it's time to move on.

The gaffe-ish quote is tough to swallow, but when you don't speak another language very well you tend to me more literal than you would in your own tongue. A lot of the criticism has to do with the results England have had under his stewardship as well, if he was much more successful they would be a bit more forgiving. This is just throwing another log on the fire.

Capello needs to go sooner rather than later. Why put Rooney through a negative experience, for both the player and fans. He could have kept him on and let him exploit the tiring defence, he scores, he gains some credit back with the fans - job done. He doesn't do that does he.

He never moved during 2 quite stunning goals, and then he says Beckham is too old and that he will get 1 more game and then say bye bye. Who is he? ******* presenter on Rainbow?
