Fabio Capello names his provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup.
Fabio Capello has confirmed his provisional squad for the World Cup, with 30 players making up the list of those who will travel to Austria in six days time to begin the training preparation for the tournament.

Jamie Carragher is called into the squad for the first time under Fabio Capello, while Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson and Manchester City winger Adam Johnson are the only uncapped players named.

Joe Cole returns to the fold for the first time since England's 4-1 victory in Zagreb in 2008, joining his Chelsea colleagues John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole who secured the Premier League title on Sunday and compete in The FA Cup Final against Portsmouth this Saturday.

They could face Pompey goalkeeper David James at Wembley, one of three goalkeepers in the provisional squad along with Joe Hart and Rob Green.

I mean Carragher has played more than Jags but he has played ******* wank, I really cant understand that at all, plus he quit England and now can just walk straight back in while others fight hard to impress, what a crock of [Poor language removed]. King can only play every other game!!

I think if anything Capello has taken a huge gamble, a lot of flack will be going his way if we dont reach the Semi's, the press will kill him.

When does he have to make his very final squad?

mate your right, he'll give away pen after pen the way he plays. Those shady UEFA refs won't give a damn who he is. All those divers will have field day.

It's a decent squad. The defensive picks are a bit strange, certainly Carragher, Upson and Warnock haven't had good seasons by any means, you would expect they'd be the ones to miss out.

Carragher quit England, he wouldn't come back for a couple of weeks just to be told "sorry Jamie larr, your crap, your not in the final 23" by Capello.

He must have some guarantee, or he's on the fudge and polos.
