A short summary of the performance:

• Overall, a comfortable win against snide opposition containing several players out there looking to hurt someone; their RB Rooney in particular was an absolute moron.

• We particularly excelled in keeping the ball from our defensive third and into the midfield.

• However, the lack of movement & quality ahead of them often meant the ball just being played around that area.

• We looked to attempt to switch play often, and I was surprised at the quality of some of those long passes; Coleman in particular struck a couple of very nice ones.

• Defence looked solid; Coleman, Keane & Welch all did their jobs well.

• Wing backs (Patterson & Vinagre) also fine if unspectacular; we need more attacking threat from them.

• Midfield was OK; Iwobi our brightest spark in trying to make things happen, Onana still trying to find his feet and misplaced a few passes.

• Gray looked a class above the opposition; but the same could not be said for Rondon & McNeil. Rondon showing that he would even struggle at this level. McNeil will hopefully get better with more playing time.

• We changed to a 4-2-3-1 later on with Warrington really showing promise in the CM role after coming on as a substitute.

• Overall, positives: we kept a clean sheet, it was a comfortable win, we got minutes in the legs and some good showings from the youngsters. Improvements: need more threat in the attacking third (as we all know!), plus I’d like to see more from our wing backs if we are to play 3-4-3 long term.

My honest assessment of last night without going over the top was a very poor performance.

The lack of intensity of pressing as a team together was extremely poor. Fleetwood were nervous and poor in control for many patches of the game and we stood off and sat off them. made them look alright.

If the crowd across the park B team was playing Fleetwood last night easy 3 or 4 nil win as they would have pressed mistakes with high enegry. Frank has our crowd running around doing nothing. 1 presses and the rest stand off.

Iwobi and Onana were impressive in fairness.

Well my honest summary of the game is that we've overcome a massive banana skin and many a team would have been bullied out of that last night to be fair.

It was their huge North West derby and they went at us at times aiming to cause injury and get under our skins.

A far cry from that miserable Millwall cup game when our timid, frightened and wafty polecats surrendered under the intimidation.

We were cool, calm and the only team in it. No sign of the bullying hard men tactics working.

Fleetwood should have ended up with 10 men too. Great team work for the goal and an all round decent display in what could have been a massive confidence loss there.

The need for a striker was glaring though. Even at this level poor Rondon is well off the pace and cut a sad figure again as he bumbled through it, showing rare flashes of what he was 10 years ago.

Well done blues, not as easy as many people seem to think that.
