Carlo Ancelotti is expected to take the Everton manager’s job on a deal that will contract him to the club until the summer of 2024, with an announcement expected soon from Goodison Park that could see the new manager in place for the weekend.

Everton remain hopeful that they can close a deal for
Carlo Ancelotti to become their new manager. Talks took place last week in Munich between representatives and will continue although it is understood that a final agreement has not yet been reached.
Although Ancelotti is keen to return to the Premier League and is attracted by the idea of managing Everton, he wants to make sure that the conditions are right
following his sacking by Napoli.
Contrary to reports, Ancelotti was not on Merseyside on Monday and, currently, the Italian is pressing ahead with his plans to spend Christmas in Vancouver, where his wife is from and where he has spent time before when he has been between jobs. Ancelotti left Napoli last week, although he is still being paid by the club, despite taking them to the
last-16 of the Champions League, because of the poor domestic form.
If Everton bring in Ancelotti it will be something of a coup for the club given the 60-year-old’s stellar CV having managed at AC Milan, Chelsea (where he won the league and cup double), Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Telegraph Sport understands that Ancelotti was not the only candidate whose representatives Everton have met in recent days, with intermediaries having held talks over the prospect of hiring Ralf Rangnick.
The 61-year-old German has stepped away from coaching to work as head of sport and development for Red Bull, covering RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and New York Red Bulls.
Rangnick has been strongly linked to Everton on two previous occasions – having been in the running to replace David Moyes in 2013 only to be overlooked with Roberto Martinez appointed. Then in 2017 he was approached to replace Ronald Koeman after Everton’s initial approach for Marco Silva, then at Watford, appeared to fail. At that time he told Everton he wanted to stay with Leipzig.
Since Vitor Pereira, who had emerged as Everton’s first-choice,
took himself out of the running last week the club have also considered other candidates including the former Red Bull Salzburg and Bayer Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt, who is currently out of work after leaving his job in China.
