Duncan Ferguson’s stint as Everton caretaker manager is set to extend to the Premier League game against Arsenal on Saturday as negotiations to make Carlo Ancelotti the club’s new permanent appointment continue.

Ancelotti has returned to Italy where discussions are taking place with former club Napoli over the severance package on a contract which was scheduled to run until 2021 before his sacking last week.

The 60-year-old is keen to succeed Marco Silva at Goodison Park, having held lengthy talks with the owner Farhad Moshiri, the chairman Bill Kenwright and director of football, Marcel Brands, and will become the highest-paid manager in Everton’s history if there are no late hitches.

An incentivised contract worth around £9 million-a-year has been discussed, according to sources in Italy.
Ancelotti’s son, Davide, is poised to join Everton as part of his backroom staff, with Ferguson having been told he will have a place in the new regime.

Ferguson saw Everton lose 4-2 on penalties in the Carabao Cup against Leicester City last night, but only after they had staged a strong comeback from 2-0 down.

The Scot guided the club to a win over Chelsea and a draw at Manchester United in the opening games of his interim spell in charge and has made an impression in rousing supporters behind their team again.

The tight turnaround before Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off with Arsenal, and the fact negotiations with Ancelotti are still to be finalised, means Ferguson is likely to get a fourth match.

9m? I hope is only a 3 year deal. Anything more will risk a big pay out when things turn bad.

So he just needs to sort out his P45 with Napoli.

Mint.

What Ancelotti will bring during the coming months will be revolutionary It won't be overt but he will gear the club to a mindset, were tales of the boys end and semi-finalist or final failures will be met with derision.

We've all worked those jobs, were you get comfortable. Change can be intimidating and most of the time it's BS corporate speak and we thumbed our noses at it. In this case however, he has the pedigree to back it up. More importantly, it's needed.

Looking at his background and his sackings, he faces down oligarchs and ego-maniacs and moves on. What is interesting, is he realizes the expectations and accepts them. This is a man who has been employed by some of the most powerful industrial capitalists on the planet and he's delivered.

He will know a chancer and a fool. I can't see him jeopardizing his reputation unless he has cast iron guarantees that he has a fighting chance here. He can only be given that by external forces that have yet to be revealed to the general public.

Next time you see Kenwright's mug on the screen, give him a wave. Even though he never sank a penny of his own money into the club and even profited of it. The man against all odds left this club in a better state than he found it.

Even though we could have had Sheik Mansour running us if he didn't insist on being Chairmen.

I’m just being cautious mate, I’ve followed him long enough to know he can be awfully hopeless when it comes to recovering from a slump in form. When the rest of the league figure out his tactics, his team will struggle.
Has ever demonstrated having more than Plan A ? If so , that's a step up from our last permanent manager.
