Silva was very unlucky. The Pickford incident at Anfield tarnished what was probably one of the best displays by anyone at Anfield for ages were we outplayed a smack in form Liverpool and should have been 2 up if Mina or Gomes had headed in. Even the 5-2, at 2-1 down we’re dominating play and Calvert Lewin is brought down, that’s 2-2 and we’re against ten men in the absolute ascendancy. Instead we’re cheated out of it and Liverpool go to 3-1 and game over. He lost Gomes and Gbamin as soon as he had them to injury and barely had Delph fit at all.

I think he was a talented coach and knew how to go up against top opposition but ultimately injuries, bad luck, and some really bad performances did for him and like Koeman before him he showed he couldn’t change it round. If things had gone differently he might have got into a positive virtuous circle and we’d be talking about how good he was. Instead he got caught in the Everton death spiral and was gone.

Letting in goals from nearly every set piece is not unlucky . We couldn’t defend deep and if we pushed up we got cut through and had players running at Pickford with great regularity. Silva has been like that at every prem club he’s managed and he will never manage a club bigger than Everton in his career imo. He’s a bad manager imo

It was a failure of the Club and Brands in particular, that the Manager had no knowledge of the lad. Unless of course Carlo had already told Brands that he isn't interested in the players currently on loan - his mission could be to bring in his own players rather than invest time in other manager's failures. JJK may be the exception to this.

Marcel: Carlo, we need to talk about a player we have out on loan, Luke Garbutt.
Carlo: Okay.
Marcel: He's a 24-year-old left back who seems to have found his level in League 1.
Carlo: I see.
Marcel: His contract is up at the end of the year and we won't be offering him a new one.
Carlo: Um...
Marcel: In all probability you'll never lay eyes on him, or even hear anything about him ever again.
Carlo: o_O

Yep this is the moment I was talking about. He had that "FFS Everton" look on his face
Too many average and worse players with dreadful attitudes have been hanging around Goodison for too long. Hopefully Carlo will weed them out. Our squad has talent but it's the bad eggs with stink attitudes are our main issue.

The media officer should have anticipated a question on Garbutt. PL managers nearly have to be as well briefed as politicians these days.

Absolutely not Ancelotti's fault but definately on the media team.

It's not a big issue but it makes us look amateur and probably irritated Ancelotti afterwards. I would not be surprised if he followed up on that.

Tbh so many parts of our club seemed to be run in a rather lax manner. A perfect example is when we try and stream preseason games and there is always technical issues.

The Garbutt thing certainly isn't Ancelotti's fault but it was poor from the club. That sort of thing should be briefed by the press officer to make sure the manager doesn't get put in that position. It's hardly a big deal but it wasn't ideal really.
How is it poor from the club, why would they have to inform the manager one of the most respected and decorated men in world football about a guy in his mid 20s who has no hope of ever becoming a PL standard player. "Hey Carlo what will we do with Garbut he's not too good wouldn't look out of place in the bench in the Coventry Town league division 3 relegation playoff B team reserves shield".

No, as I thought the original post made pretty clear, the press officer should have had a word with him 2 minutes before the press conference and said 'here is a list of players the club has released today, it's highly likely you'll be asked about them, just say we wish them well'. It's basics really.

You might have a point if it was in fact highly likely that he would be asked about Luke Garbutt. But that was not likely at all.

Yes, I see your point. I guess I'd argue that the fact that it happened doesn't mean it was likely, but that it's like, what are we even talking about?
As someone who deals with the press regularly I would say it was very likely a question like that would come up. Not necessarily about Garbutt but about someone. As fans we think of the big issues, but this is the reporters only chance to get a quote they can use in a story. Local papers don’t have a lot to write about, every little helps. Again, it’s no big deal, but I bet Ancelotti gave the press officer an earful and I would have too.
