To think some pundits (Charlie bellend Nicholas) thought he was the wrong appointment for where we were in the league.

Do any of them slimey tw@s on Sky Sports ever have anything positive to say about our club and the choices we make? If it’s not criticising our transfer dealings it’s having a pop at our managerial appointments.

He probably expected and wanted us to go for a Sean Dyche / Eddie Howe / David Moyes appointment to keep us in our ‘place’.

I think the bigger issue with pre-season is that we never arrange a good schedule and just tend to call around and ask if any teams fancy a kick about in mid-July.

That has been a huge issue for years, regardless of manager, and needs to be addressed.

It is always games against Bury, Oldham, and the likes.

It might work in our favour this year, I can't see these global friendly tournaments in Asia / America that we can't get invited to being encouraged to anything near the same degree.

Don Carlo is the most tactically astute manager we have ever had,

Just wait until he has built his own team, he is currently getting a tune out of some very average prem players.

Thats why we need to back him to the hilt.

I fear because he's doing such a good job the club may fall into the trap of giving him the bare minimum and letting him turn water into wine as it were as Moyes did for years on a limited budget.

Similiar to Spurs with Poch.

Totally agree, we need to back him no point having him if we don’t.

Over to you Everton board do what’s needed to make us great again.

He's on a different planet to what we've had recently. Give him a contract for as long as he wants.

Problem is with the state our finances have been left in by the previous regimes, it might be a while before he actually gets to build his own squad. Hopefully he really is in it for the long haul.

....hopefully Brands will keep the continuity, but I wonder about Ancelotti’s son and whether he might be a very good coach in his own right.

Time will tell.
Good piece done by David Hughes on Twitter on his influence on the set pieces. Looks like he has great insight into parts of the game

Ancelotti is an elite manager and last night we all got to see how an elite manager works.

I have no doubt that match was well and truly lost had Martinez, Koeman , Allyrdyce or Silva been in charge.
Only Dunc got the same levels of energy out of the players that CA has but I doubt Duncan would have the game management skills of Carlo.

I hope that Moshiri, Usmanov, Kenwright , DBB, Brands or whoever is in charge of managerial recruitment going forward realises that bargain basement shopping is not the way to go when you are talking about an investment of hundreds of millions of pounds.

I think that people need to realise we will not be copying Liverpool or Man City in our style of play. We have a manager that wants to win matches and is prepared to win it any way he can.

We also need to understand that he sees players in a totally different way to the average fan .
The team last night was made up of several players including Coleman,Iwobi, DCL,Keane,Davies,Pickford,Sigurdsson who have been described on here as being over the hill or simply not good enough .
The fan can see a poor performance , the manager can see the potential and the type of format and organisation to get great performances out of his players.

I have never followed the career of CA closely enough to knows if he has almost melted into and become part of every club he has managed but he certainly has done so at Everton.

It’ll be interesting - apparently he’s our set pieces coach, and we’ve definitely improved vastly in that area, so signs are good so far!
