If we don't get Europe, he's failed. He's said it himself.

He won't be sacked because of it, but him, Dunc, Davide, Brands, and the players, will have failed, because Europe is the target for this season.

If we don't get it, then we're going to have to sell someone, because we won't have the money to go on and build the squad.

In an ideal world, that's going to be Kean, Iwobi, Bernard etc - but they all are hopefully going to go anyway.

But in a realistic world, Richarlison and Dom are our major assets. The draw to keep them is Carlo, but financially, because of the impact of COVID, we need Europe. It really would be abysmal not to get it, especially given the chances we've had.

That's on Carlo, Brands and everyone involved.

Any season where we don't win anything or get into Europe is a failure. This club needs to get real and stop treating mediocrity as success.

If we dont get Europe this year it will be a real disappointment because it was a huge chance and next year will be far harder to compete. It won't be the management's fault though. The fault will lie solely at the feet of the players because they pick and choose when to show up. They don't want to succeed anywhere near enough. They wouldn't perform like this so regularly if they did.

I'm already looking forward to the summer clear out. It better be good.

Wake up Bluetoff. Wolves got about 5 million quid from Europa league qualification. That is up to the quarter final stage as well.
No decent player dreams of the Europa league.
You don't attract better players in the Europa league . You play the players like Bolasie who you couldn't sell.
Oh ffs

Did you even read my post?

We attracted James Rodriguez (JAMES RODRIGUEZ) because of Carlo, without any CL or EL footy.

Having Europe of some description gives us wiggle room to build a better squad. Fine, use the actual competition to play tosh, but look at Leicester - they have managed to build a very good squad because they had Europe. That's not because players dream of playing in the EL, but because they say to players: "Look, you're going to get games, because we'll play Mr X in this game on a Thursday, and you'll play on the Sunday in the league"

Think about it. We need 3-4 first-team players. We might able to shift a few of the other lot, but we'll then probably need another 2 in, so we're looking at 5-6 signings this summer if a few squad players go.

We need to be able to say to all of those players - 'you will play these league games', but we also need to be able to say to the squad players (who we need for better depth) 'don't worry, you're going to play a lot of games, because we want you to play in these matches on a Thursday, and the cup matches' etc etc.

That's where the benefit comes. That's how you use the competition to build your squad. And, I'll go back to the Leicester example, that's how they've gone on to become a team challenging for the top four now for the last 2 seasons, even while having the Europa League to contend with.

Leicester aren't that much better than us really. Just have a few better players and are able to win different kinds of games. We unfortunately can't win games where the emphasis is on us to break the opposition down, whether that's tactical or lack of technical ability im not sure.

Hamez has come for a pay day mate. You can't build a team round a 20 game a season player.
Yes we won at Anfield but that isn't progess if we then lose at home to Burnley.
Yes Leicester have a very good squad but also better management and more importantly better recruitment.
We need 5 or 6 players every single summer. If you are lucky you get 2.

Europa league doesn't make any money. Champions league group stage is where the money is.
Seriously after tonight’s abysmal performance against Burnley can anybody honestly believe that this team is capable of competing to any degree in Champions league. Carlo may be quality but this team just are just not up to it, hopefully Carlo will be able to attract some quality. However after tonights shocker (once again) l reckon he is going to need a magic wand to get anything out of this lot

We all know we’re crap.
We just want to get spawny and get into the CL for a couple of boss away games in Milan and Paris Etc.

We brought in 3(edit: TWO with Doucoure just turning 28 in January) relatively older players for "immediate success". If we don't get Europe(and I genuinely hope we don't get 7th as that one is going to be a cluster) it's a straight up failure. Going from 11th to 8th isn't what we brought in Carlo fn Ancelotti for.

Ok, I'll bite. What types of games has our recruitment allow us to win over Leicesters? You're essentially saying "well you can't compare recruitment because it's COMPLETELY different the aims"

This is the harsh truth. This is our "win now" year. Simple as that...

I still wouldn't hate if we struggled for a bit while we tried to nail down a way of playing. Part of the reason that the diamond formation doesn't work is because the guys are unfamiliar with it as we've spent a ton of time defending as two banks of four. That's not inherently a bad thing but our two banks of four doesn't turn into enough going forward. There is still work to do if we want to be a CL contender in the coming seasons.

Next season I'll still be supporting this club but I fear it will be better for my mental health if I just accept that we are mid table mediocrity and will remain so despite the best intentions of Ancelotti.
