We showed ambition with Carlo. Without the pieces around him to support his ambition he bolted.

Silva was a bust but that's the model that's going to work. For managers as well as players, we have to be savvy enough to pick up the up-and-comers. If it's a big name with any quality we'll always be at risk of outbid by the RMs of the world, if it's someone whose best days are behind him (like Carlo, arguably), then we'll overpay.
