The pundits on ESPN FC tipped their top six before the start of the season and were given the chance to change their mind this week.

Three kept the same teams but changed the order - you can guess the six teams. The next night the other two tipped their top four again.

Not one of them had Everton in their picks, and this was since last weekends results

Ian Darke did ask Steve Nicol if he'd thought of putting Everton in his top six, but he didn't say a word. He just there with a sheepish grin on his dial.

Darke said he doesn't think we've got the squad depth, but that we are very interesting.

I mention this because it's a similar outlook to those framing 3/1 odds about Everton winning the derby.
I gave up on pundits years ago. When I watch on TV I extremely rarely watch it prior to the match, do something at HT and turn it off immediately after. I know what I see from our team (I watch them every bloody week) and I don't need anyone else telling me what is going on and with such a lack of knowledge of our players too. There has been such a negative vibe around us with pundits for years though. Hopefully with Cahill, Osman and others coming in there is a chance that will change.
We also have to take into account we haven't been a major force for years, I had a Southampton fan (about 40) I work with saying I don't get it with Everton fans you expect trophies etc and you never do anything - you're just a mid-table club. I just said that shows a severe lack of your football knowledge then. I tried not to bite too much.
To be honest I don't really care what anyone else thinks anymore, a lot of people just regurgitate what people like Souness say!!!!! All I know is I'm enjoying watching us far more than I have done for years, I love the positivity around the club and there seems to be a togetherness between fans, players and the board etc not seen for a long while. Long may it continue!
Wow that turned into a rant!

ESPN is dreadful...seem to hate us

Always hated pundits, particularly with how RS dominated the media has been but suddenly we have Cahill, Osman, Kilbane and Kev Campbell all getting involved I’m a lot less inclined to switch off!

Maybe that's when I'll watch it. I think I'm like one of the Twitter followers that only wants to be told agreeable things about what they believe in

He was a pretty key part of the World Cup winning side though tbh
It’s easy to be good though for six games, particularly in ideal surroundings playing with a very good team. He’s useless over 38 games when you experience all types of games and difficult moments. Far too inconsistent and he just epitomises the modern day footballer for the wrong reasons. I’d rather have doucoure

I hope not - would be like Klopp going and the Cult replacing him with Gerrard.

The day Carlo leaves we must appoint a top drawer manager to carry on his work - not go down the sentimental Lampard, Solskjaer road.
I do agree with this, there’s only a small percentage of them that do work out. I do think though that Ferguson has eyes on the job at some point but I’d like him to go and take a job elsewhere, prove himself, then take the job. He’s obviously highly thought of and he’s become very accustomed in the media these days. When you promote internally in top jobs, the whole structure of the the club needs to be tip top. From the academy, to the recruitment for it to work. Almost like that lot had through the 70s to late 80s.
Top managers have to start somewhere, it would be great if we had one in line waiting

I see the point you are making but it’s not quite the same.

he’s been working with him and by then will have a good few years under his belt watching and learning from him.

It’s not quite an OGS, Gerrard, Lampard situation in that scenario.

Get your point mate but for me its daft going from a 3 time champions league winning manager to a bloke who has never been a full time manager.

Its something I could definitely see us doing however which will probably take us back to the same place we were under Martinez/Silva/Koeman/Alladyce.

I hope Moshiri has learnt about the value of bringing in a proven top manager - not just in their management/tactical abilities but also their pull for top players.

Big test on the weekend. Will have go play the perfect game to win. Here’s where he shows the difference a top manager makes. Most managers who can suppress Liverpool’s initial rabid aggression usually end up out thinking Klopp over the 90 minutes as he tends to have the one game plan. Don’t concede early, keep 11 on the pitch, and we can win this game .

I do agree with you.
We’ve seen just how massive having a big name can be. Just how important it is. It’s a game changer. And I’d be reluctant to go back if I’m honest.

But I think Ferguson will be closer to Arteta at Arsenal for instance. Who I think has a little more credibility given his experience.

That being said I don’t think it’ll happen. Nor do I think he’d want it. He’d only ever want what’s best for the club. Look at how he responded to Ancelotti. I like that he’s part of it though. We lost the connection for a while there and I think he had a big hand in the fans reconnecting.
