2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

If Carlo is assuming Everton will sign 3-4 quality signings for wingers, RB, back up LB, forward, he is genuinely mistaken.

All Everton can attract would be La Liga, Budesliga, Serie A flops from their bigger clubs.

its not like any quality player would be attracted to Everton's same old tired ambition of playing CL. We always talk big and display the complete opposite in our negative mindset and playing culture.

You can scout 2-3 young under 25 players over 12 months and they could prove better than 2 x 30-40 M players.

We should have scouted a player like Maddison a long time ago.

We did, we signed Gylfi Sigurdsson for £45m instead.

I was actually waiting for a "middle finger" which is what you seem to enjoy dishing out to every poster that opposes the "God" Ancellotti.

Fat Sam could have set this team up the exact same way as Ancellotti does, Silva had 70% of the same squad and was sacked midway in his 2nd season.

No manager in modern football is afforded 2 years just to "figure it out" and after that there is no guarantee he would have figured anything out. Koeman's days are numbered in a similar way as he has inherited a good team and now gives excuses why the whole team is rubbish.

Carlo was brought in as a "winning mentality" manager who will stabilize the club and use his experience to improve the ability of these players on whom we had spent fortunes on. If he expecting Everton to sign a whole lot of Bayen and Real Madrid rejects and turn them into a dynamic, winning team he is mistaken.

If he sets our team up and instills tactics to attack in games such as Fulham, West Ham, Newcastle etc and we end up losing a couple of games I won't have a problem. The mindset of this football club just reeks "loser mentality". He just tinkers way too much which doesn't allow for any team chemistry whatsoever. If he is gonna use the same pathetic excuses of Sam and Silva then he can expect the same criticism as well. If this garbage was dished out by Sam or Silva, everyone would be fuming. Most of these players are not Everton caliber but they were brought on high fee and high wages because their past "potential". Do I believe they have the potential to not look so mentally lost? Yes, its amazing what a bit of positivity and belief does to your team.

So yes, pardon me if I expect the great Carlo to be capable of not being out thought by Scott Parker, Steve Bruce and David Moyes at home in successive games.

Carlo and Brands Out.
Your argument is flawed because both Branss and Ancelotti did not come in for a quick fix to suddenly start winning games and flying up the league with the core of a team which was in the relegation zone shortly before CA was appointed manager.
Marcel Brands gas repeated on several occasions that he told Moshiri that if his remit was instant success then Brabds would not take the job

Carlo Ancelotti is a serial all across Europe.
He knew on taking the job that it not rebuilding the club but instead it is building the club from scratch in this modern era of football.

Any fan who felt that after twelve months the manager would have a team to compete with the talent that clubs such as City,Utd,Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester then really should consider some fantasy sport far removed from reality.

Well I think that is being a bit disingenuous about the last summer. They specifically targeted those players we brought in (Allan, James & Doucoure) for immediate impact and success. I get the point you are making but bringing in players Carlo has worked with and had/have good pedigree to get us up the league fast is exactly what the aim of last summer was. Yes, it is a longER term project but there was a plan in place to get things moving quickly.

I do agree that a manager like CA with his history in management and at his age will not want this project to take forever.
The players you mentioned are absolutely for the now and not for the future. I do believe that after the of last season Carlo knew that he had to character and experience into steam that was lacking both

I do however believe that Ancelotti and Brands realise that getting the team right and the mindset in a proper place will take years not months.

Several of the SKY commentators have spoken about mindset and belief at Everton and how it has to change and that is the biggest challenge.

The game tomorrow is a prime example. We go into that game hoping to win, they go in expecting to win.
That has been the case even at times under Moyes when we very often had the better team

This is really what CA brings to the table. The belief that he is the best manager and can build the best team... but it will take patience.

The fact that it still needs to be said when the club has brought in Carlo fn Ancelotti and James fn Rodriguez is astounding to me...

SOME OF THE ANCELOTTI PRE MATCH LIVERPOOL P/C

Calvert-Lewin and Allan return

Ancelotti confirms DCL and Allan are back for the derby
Gbamin and Mina are the only absentees tomorrow
Allan was out for two months. To have him back is really important for us in this period

Carlo on James

He's happy here, confident, motivated. He had a problem in the last few games with his calf but now he's in a good condition. I don't know if he complains about the weather, but we know it's not the best! There are other good things in this area."

Pickford criticism

Criticism is part of our job. Alisson knows this, Pickford knows this. You don’t have to put in the discussion their quality.
He is focused to prepare for the game. "He's focused to prepare the game. Of course he was not happy when the injury [to Van Dijk] happened but I think now he's focused only on the game

Carlo on Liverpool

It will be a different game. Every team has its own quality but what doesn't change is the difficulty of the game. Our motivation is really high because it's a derby & we want to compete against our neighbours

Carlo on Derby Aggression

It's important to be focused on what we are going to do on the game, to be brave and to be confident. At the end, we are going to play football and Liverpool will do the same

Carlo on Liverpool Game Plan

I think to play against Liverpool we have to compete on the intensity level they use in games. You have to try to find solutions up front because you cannot only defend against them. We are going to try to propose something tomorrow.

More on Allan

He can add more intensity, more concentration defensively but I have to say Tom Davies, who replaced him, most of the time did really well. I'm happy to have him back because I think the consistency of the team is going to improve

Carlo on Anfield chances of Winning

For sure they lost the support of their fans. In this sense, Anfield was one of the most difficult stadiums to play at... It's the same that happened to us & other teams in this particular season when you cannot have the support of your fans
It’s a long time that Everton won a derby. It could be the right time tomorrow. It depends on what we are able to do on the pitch & only this.

Carlo on Mina

He had a problem on his calf, he will be out for at least three or four weeks.

Carlo on James

James is not 100% but "99%" fit for tomorrow

Thanks for always doing this mate. I come here looking for it after every presser.

I think there's a couple of aspects to that. I agree that the overall 'project' is going to be a long one. Personally I think talk of competing with City etc even longer term is totally fanciful. If people are thinking that we're going to be challenging for titles even 5 years down the line then I think they're very optimistic. I'm not saying it's not possible, but to me this is more about becoming an established part of the top 6 and then looking to push on from there.

I think there was an expectation that we would qualify for Europe this season though. Nothing about what we've done over the last year - and I mean nothing - has suggested that we're attempting to build something over a 3/4 year period. All the signs are that we've got a bit of fed up of 5 year plans and decided we're going to try and push on in the short term and try to build from a position of strength. With that in mind I think it would be a disappointment - and in some ways a failure - if we don't achieve that this year. It wouldn't be a catastrophe or mean Ancelotti had done a bad job or whatever, but I think it would mean they'd not hit one of their key objectives and that last summer's recruitment gamble may not be one that pays off.

Ancelotti needs players for now this is a relatively short project for him. If we can get 3/4 more this summer and keep our stars I think we will be closer to the top. I imagine it may be another condensed season so again there will be mixed results all round. Top 6 maybe even top 4 is still on this season and if he achieves that we have made our first step forward. What I like about Ancelotti is I genuinely don't know what team or set up he will go for tomorrow. Hopefully it is one that takes our beloved neighbours by surprise. He's got things wrong this season but he has also got a lot more right and some of the players have let him down on occasion. 9 wins 3 draws from here should be enough to get top 4. 7 wins 4 draws should be enough for top 6.

Good discussions here. Much has been said before, but regarding the question of whether we have made any progression, I ask myself the following questions:

Am I any more confident that we will give Liverpool a fight for the victory in tomorrow's match, versus I have been before?

This is of course subjective. In theory, we should have gotten relatively better, while Liverpool should have gotten relatively worse. Therefore, we should be more optimistic than before, but are we?
