For older fans who was the better manager? I've heard older fans say, our style of play under Catterick was the best they've ever seen watching Everton.

Didn't see the Catterick teams but from what I've heard the 1969/70 team was a thing of beauty and artistry.

What a shame it couldn't have been built on. Ball sold (self inflicted wound); the EC chance lost in controversial circumstances; the FA Cup SF loss against the manslaughter's; Catterick's own health issues).

My old fella always says the season before 1968/69 the football was even better, just a year later they realised what they had to do to win it👍

The thing with Catterick was that he built two great teams, the team that won the league in 1963 was great but had lots of players at their peak and those players were coming into the last couple of years at the top. He then built the team that won the league in 1970, that team from1968 to 1970 was absolutely the best footballing club side I've watched, it's also worth remembering that over half of the first choice 11 were products of the Everton youth system.

I think on the basis that the football was so good and that he did it twice, I'd go with Catterick, but , maybe that's just an age thing. They were both tremendous either way

…that’s my reasoning too, not forgetting an FA Cup in ‘66.

Hugely different characters, Catterick distant from his players, rarely left his Bellefield office. Kendall much more ‘one of the boys’. Kendall was unlucky not having a proper go at European Cup for obvious reasons, Catterick seemed intent on building a 3rd title team rather than tweaking what he had. Selling Ball was his demise.

I think it is a generation thing, more for me though Harry was simply the best as were his teams and the football they played was outstanding against teams that played outstanding football themselves. I enjoyed the success Howard’s’ teams brought and gave us great pleasure but understand why, those who never saw Cattericks’s teams, would vote for Kendalls’sides.

Wouldn’t it be brilliant to see success in the near future so we could all enjoy it together!
