Not a bad player but looks as if we can’t get the best out of him currently, it’s hard to accommodate every player especially when they all have different styles. Easy scapegoat because he ain’t got the pace prem strikers have.

The only great season Cenk Tosun had with a top side was his last full season with Besiktas (the winner of the Turkish Super League) prior to his move to Everton. At the time, Besiktas was superior to all other teams with their style of football as well as the results the club attained. I couldn't believe his overprice tag of £27M at the time if I am not mistaken. The expectations of young Cenk Tosun when he moved from Germany with his all level youth German teams credentials was very high at the time but he never fulfilled his potential albeit overblown throughout his career in Turkey. He played well for a mediocre team but he has probably had two good to great seasons with a championship caliber team, Besiktas. Even with the Turkish NT, the numbers can be misleading, he has never been prolific. He is slow but with a good technic for a striker. His finishing touch is good and he is agile but his traits are sufficient only for mediocre teams in second tier European leagues. Unfortunately, Turkey doesn't have any good strikers. BurakYilmaz has been probably the most prolific Turkish striker in the last decade though he is older and slow at the age of 34. When he is healthy and Turkey plays with one striker, Tosun is the back up at best. Tosun has been mostly deployed to create space or take the CBs out of their positions for the his team's midfielders to score. Tosun's out of form was also visible in the Euro 2020 qualifications since he has been mostly a bench player in Everton. Notwithstanding, I think blame falls elsewhere more particular to this game rather than on Tosun. At least, he has provided the assist that took Everton to penalties against a very good team. It's the mistake of the coach to let a player who hasn't played for so long to take the first penalty kick.
