But to that to a bloke who hasnt won anywhere near as much as his predicessor in the space of 5 years (a Champs League and FA Cup to Houllier's FA Cup, Uefa Cup, League Cup, Uefa Super Cup and Charity Shield) and spent twice as much? Very strange.

Found this interesting football blog looking at Liverpool's Premiership title race. It tells us a fair bit of what we already know on the reliance on Torres and Gerrard, but always good to see some statistics backing it up!

They are looking in serious jeopardy when it comes to maintaining a top 4 place. If they do get humiliated by United this weekend, 5 straight defeats could take some considerable recovery. And if they miss out on the CL, they surely can't keep hold of Torres, which will properly screw them over

We should never write them off but, realistically, Liverpool have to win against United on Sunday and the reverse fixture against Lyon to even still be considered as contenders in either of those tournaments. I think they'll draw both, get battered in the meantime by Arsenal in the LC tie, and just have the FA Cup and 4th place in the PL to play for by the first week of November.
