Tbh if Besic was fit, then I would try playing without Barry, as something is going badly wrong with tracking runners.

Robles, Coleman, Jags, Mori and Baines also need a run of games together IMO, we need some consistency in defence.

If Mirallas gets fit we need him playing wide with Del (or Lennon) on the other side.

Mirallas and Del doesn't work from the start. No balance to the side unfortunately. Mirallas and Lennon does look a good pairing though.

Not sure we have seen enough of the pair of them starting to judge tbh. 20 mins against Swansea when the whole team looked half asleep didn't really answer the question.

It provides more balance than having Kone out wide and up front at the same time, which has always made the team look unbalanced to me.

It also gets the best out of Rom as well, so I suppose it's swings and round-abouts.

Kev and Del, for me, just doesn't work (in the league) from the start. If we're chasing a game/going for a winner, they're ideal.

Really not sure it does tbh. What works for Rom is early through balls and quality deliveries into the box from wide.

It does stop him becoming so isolated though mate - meaning he only has to shirk off one marker rather than two or three to get on the end of those throughballs/crosses.

What we need, if we're gonna go down that root, is a better, younger version of Kone.

Ga Ba has been immense this season. Wouldn't drop any of the starting 11 when we play Geri and Kev on either wing, who I think all deserve to be there. Which begs the question, where does the change need to come from? Lads holiday in maga? Move to 4-3-3? 5-4-1? Long ball tactics?

For me Lukaku needs a spell on the bench and Kone a sustained run up front, Osman adds a bit of composure so he should be starting regularly on the left, Del offers very little on the right lately so again a spell on the bench and McGeady given a chance to impress.
Del what?? Did you watch the Swansea game??

Ignore the Barry fanboys mate, you're spot on. Our record without Barry is great, even last season when we were in the worst of it McCarthy and Gibson secured wins v Newcastle and QPR. With the ball at his feet he's very decent, no doubt about it, but off the ball he is miles off the pace. Don't care whether he's been best of a bad bunch, we're 12th, no one is 'vital'. Our defensive record is shocking, as is our ability to see out games. We fade hugely. Therefore your prime areas to look in the team are GK, centrebacks and defensive mid. Most people on here seem happy to put the boot in on genuine proven class like Jags and knock Stones, yet will wail hysterically if you even question Barry.

Any other sides in the league playing a 35 year old every game often twice a week? Maybe they're all wrong and Barry is just sensational, or maybe carrying a past it player is a contributing factor to us being 12th.
Totally agree, play McCarthy next to Besic (when both fit) and that hole as big as Chico's ma's gap in our midfield will close and teams will stop literally running through us. This isn't a criticism of Barry, he's played well, but he's 35 and it shows.

No changes required other than the GK.

Last night we lost a tie over 180 minutes by the odd goal in 7 against one of the most expensively assembled clubs in world football...and they needed the game's officials to gift that odd goal to them.

Just how i see it. I was more annoyed at the result against Swansea.
When we play against sides like Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea etc we have to hope they are off their game a touch and we are at the top of ours to get a positive result, it's just the way it is in my opinion.
What really bugs me is negative results against what i consider to be teams inferior to us.
