2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Moyes said he wants to win games. To me having Alcaraz in the team drives us forward a lot more than having Doucoure in the team slowing a lot of the things down we try

….Doucoure is awful, you won’t get a contrary view from me, I just understand why Moyes selects him. Alcaraz was much more effective than Ndiaye today, thats where the competition might currently be in this side.

I saw this on a dodgy site - ripped off twitter or something.

Absolute nail on head.

In a normal job Moyes would be given a verbal warning at this point. The written one probably before season end if this continues.

As i said some weeks ago, hes not playing to win games. Hes playing to show TFG he needs extra money to spend and to say he needs to have full control.

Only a fool backs Moyes starting Doucoure over Alcaraz.

Only a fool applauds the Ndiaye/Alcaraz switch.

He pointed out how Alcaraz ‘changed the face’ of Everton after coming on as a substitute against Chelsea before dubbing his situation on Merseyside as ‘ridiculous’.

“What David Moyes is doing with ‘Charly’ Alcaraz is absurd”, Burgos wrote on his personal X handle (26 April).

“He starts one day and is a substitute the next, but he changed the face of the team when he came on in the second half [against Chelsea].

“Everton have a purchase option, which may be mandatory, but it’s ridiculous considering the talent they have in front of them.”

Lean into the bizarre conspiracies, I love it.

Can only assume Moyes persists with Doucoure in an attempt to get him to sign a new contract (on less money than the option) so he has a reliable (in his eyes) squad filler, with the intention of Alcaraz taking over his role as starter next season.
At least I hope that’s what he’s doing otherwise I doubt we will be seeing Alcaraz in an Everton shirt next season

Maybe hes doing it to get the best out of him - maybe that worked yesterday.

He certainly looked hungry.

I have no idea why you would make that assumption.

Moyes picks Doucoure because he thinks that he makes the team better than Alcaraz does , gives it better balance and effectively hedging his bets in midfield by hoping that Doucoure's work rate compensates for an overall lack of quality.

I don't like it and I would prefer to take a chance on Alcaraz but that's the reality .

Moyes hasn't changed , it will always be safety first.

Hes something special on the transition.

In truth though, you aren't getting into a Moyes team at 10, unless you can play that Hybrid 8 and a half role and two positions of 9 and support striker - thats what he wants that what The Duke brings, thats what Cahill brought.

We played Cahill in that arrow point of the midfield over someone like Arteta, thats Moyes.

So in my opinion Charly has to do one of two things, start wider and eventually come inside like Arteta and play in the engine room as a deep lying playmaker did or prove he can play hybrid 8 and half role at the arrow point of the midfield.

Because I’m entitled to an opinion on a fan forum maybe?

Note to self - remember to check with self appointed forum sage before posting.

Yeah there’s no weird conspiracies here.

You can disagree with the selection but there’s nothing bizarre going on.

I would like to see Alcaraz now for the rest of the season, I think in the tougher games Doucoure makes sense from a pragmatic point of view (whether you agree with it or not).

It’s not like starting Holgate over Tarkowski is it. It’s a pragmatic, safety first approach in the big games. I don’t know why anyone is surprised.
