One of the failings that reappeared in the last minutes at Chelsea again and that RM has not rectified is our weakness in the air.

I have the solution: there is this centre-half at Blackburn that wins eveything airborne and his name is...

More than a new defender what we need is more resolve. Resolve is a mental thing and shouldn't be confused with effort. We had to survive 5 minutes at Chelsea with only 10 men. We were that close to a great result. But was anyone really surprised we didn't get over the line? I wasn't. Football regularly sees 10 men lasting out for long spells, even winning the game. We held out for 20 seconds. First attack -- and we've lost the game.

Or perhaps that keeper we have been playing for the last few games who has been winning everything in the air....

Exactly - It was a hoof, deflection goal. It probably would have gone in if Barry was on the pitch.

It's 1 point. It's not going to make a damn bit of difference to our season (god I hope I don't regret that). It's hardly a great result. We take the positives and move on.

I am all for the team having a nasty streak, seeing us being bullied by the likes of John Terry is a no no,and when a decision goes against us I want to see all our bench on Their feet showing their displeasure, being Mr nice guy doesn't work.

The mid-80s teams were nasty and intimidating to officials. They moaned about everything. Meek acceptance of crap decisions, allowing teams to move free kicks forward, not defending colleagues under assault etc is a relatively recent thing, not a traditional part of Everton DNA.

It was the resulting melee which I believe was the reason we didn't hold out.

It takes total concentration to withstand the onslaught a team like Chelsea will hit you with as they search for a winner in the dying minutes.

Once they got involved in that handbag fight the concentrstion was broken and voila.

You very often see this happen when the defending team gets itself involved in controversy in a game.
