He’s a liability imo, doesn’t really do much well apart from foul but never gets much stick from certain posters for the mistakes he does make.

Besides that, the fella won’t be here next season so look to the future - he shouldn’t be starting or coming on now.

….if we’re looking to the future then we are either reliant on O’Brien or purchasing a new RB in the summer, not sure what else he can do for this weekend if O’Brien is switched to CB.

….never sure why Young continually gets bad reviews and lumped in with the likes of Keane when his performances this season have been decent enough.

We all want to progress but until we’re able to bring better in, he’s still the best option we have at RB.
Because he's a very poor and very old football player who's had 1 good game and 3 "decent, not bad" games and that's not a standard we should be aiming at, ever again.

Oh also he's been actively costing us goals in almost every game he's played, in a team that was struggling to score.

Instantly droppable (as he has been) and never to be seen again hopefully.

I feel they might be a bit flat in this one, and lose it. Hope I'm wrong.

I can't fault them at all since Moyes came in.
Just feels like the end of another demanding season, and demanding run of games. Tarkowski's absence is a big loss of leadership.

We do have our remaining home games to come but this game just gives the wrong vibes. Ironically it's very much there for the taking if the attitude is right.

Patterson is a right back my friend, even though you've got the anti-Patterson goggles on too for some reason.

….funny how it’s ok to have ‘anti-Young’ goggles on.

i’m not anti-Patterson, it’s just that he’s more of a liability than Young. I wish he wasn’t. The other point is losing Tarkowski’s experience in that back four, Young will help in that regard.

Maybe Moyes might start Patterson but I’m sure he already has an opinion.

I agree I think Young has generally been a good signing and by all accounts a brilliant character off the pitch which goes unseen. But he won't be here next season so we should try the players who will be to get some sort of assessment whether they can be part of the squad next season (Patterson and/or Dixon)

….that sounds so sensible but you could say that about virtually every member of the squad, I’d be very surprised if Moyes hasn’t already made up his mind on each and every player.

It's also not - it's not the goggles, he's just absolutely dreadful and 2-3 not-bog-standard games don't change that. This can be easily backed up by any data you want.

Patterson's not a bigger liability than Young, also provable by any data you want. Hence the comment about the goggles :)

Experience with no skills to back it up is pointless to a team trying to play and win a football game. He can be very useful with this experience (and he's won it just about all in his 20 years, credit to him) as a behind the scenes influence, but should be on the pitch as the last last LAST resort.

….Young has been an integral part of one of the best defences in the league for 2 seasons.

Let’s hope Patterson comes in and plays well, I’d be chuffed but there’s a reason he rarely gets selected.

Yeah and it's not because we played for a 0:0 and hampered every other aspect of our football overall, it's because of Ashley Young (who's made more mistakes leading to goals and chances than anyone in our team) being on the pitch.

Yes, being injured for a while and not fit will do that, to go along with the fact that the makeshift RB is bang in form and it would be incredibly daft to sub him off for this. Lescott also kept Baines out of the team for a while in the same way - the CB pairing was doing too well and the LB was occupied by the other CB. Similar thing happened to Heitinga I think. Recall someone said something similar for his time at WHam but I can't be sure who it was. It happens is my point.

Still bizarre to write off a young player for no reason at all (or for the reason he played for Rangers as is the case of others  ) because he did the unthinkable act of going past the halfway line in a Dyche team

….ok, Matey.

I’ve got 0-0 or 1-0 loss vibes for this one solely based on Tarks’ absence. Though it’s not ideal, I’d be happy to see Young get the nod in this one. Any updates on Coleman?

Such a strange position to take this.

What’s the harm in playing Patterson til the seasons end, especially if Tarks is missing.

If he’s as dreadful as you and Dave think then that will show, and we know we have to sell him.

If he does well, the lad gets a bit of much needed confidence after the shameful treatment he received from our former manager and we may get to see the player we signed - a Scottish international rb who was highly regarded by many clubs besides us.

I don’t get this line that he’s done terrible when he’s played - I think that every time he’s come in he’s done ok, and well in some games. The equal or better than Young has done for us imo.
