Just wanted to say that I was amazed that I went into my local Chinese tonight and they served chips with gravy!!! That's like me going to Liverpool and asking for pie and eels!

I live in east London in the heart of the Asian community and this is the first time i have ever been able to order this northern delicacy locally. Northern boys love gravy but it seems there has been no call for it since curry sauce has been the only option round these parts for donkeys. The last time I got this meal was from a chippy in Hunts cross years ago (I tried too make it myself a few months but my gravy making skills leave a lot to be desired)

viva la oriental kitchen!

i never notice what forum stuff is in cos i just hit new posts all the time.

how much was the said meal ? my guess in larndan is about

  • £1.50 for the chips
  • 90p gravy
  • tray 10p
  • fork 15p
what kind of standard was the gravy though ?
and sometimes chinese chips are totally different as well, we need a full food report on this.

I was waiting for the Forum thing . It IS the Everton one , but seeing how were here , I lived in Walthamstow and The Old Kent Rd and I got gravy on me chips . Mind , this was in the 80's .
However , I couldn't eat it now for a bag of dough .

sorry for not noticing the forum differences, anyway, the chips and gravy only cost £1.20 including fork & tray, the gravy weren't to me mum's standard, she's the scouser in the family and makes a lovely gravy but it was good nevertheless.

£1.20.

it was the chinese chippy's that hiked the price of gravy up as well.

bloke called geoff pullar was an opening batsman for lancs and England had our local one when i was a kid.

good chippy as well.

Love my chips & gravy. Anyone tried adding pineapple syrup to the stock when making gravy? Quite nice. Go on, you know you want to.

I rememeber going to a chippy in Newton-le-Willows once & asking for chips & barbeque sauce & being looked at as if I'd asked for grilled tarantula legs
