Christian Atsu

Christian Atsu is revelling in his improving Ghana form - and his possible goal of the tournament.

Heavily lampooned for his lethargy in the Stars' first two games, the Everton man has picked up in effectiveness, scoring twice on Sunday in Malabo.

The on-loan Chelsea man scored a sensational 25-yarder that beat goalkeeper Naby Yattara for Ghana's second.

"I play to score and I always shoot to score and that is how beautiful goals come so i am just happy about it", he said after the game.

His goals contributed to yet another Afcon semifinal berth for the west Africans - the fifth on the bounce - to face host nation Equatorial Guinea.

Atsu had scored a tap-in to put Ghana ahead in the opening two minutes of the game.

"I always work hard even though I know sometimes things will not work out and it's part of football and I must understand it. I never look down in life and work hard and hope for the best and that is what is keeping me going," he told AllSports.

His two goals put him level with four others in the competition on joint-second on the goal charts.

He seems to have a really good attitude
Definite reference to his league form when talking about some things not working out
Let him come back as the star of this tournament and play brilliantly for us. Hope to see others on the forum eating their words :D

....not so sure about eating their words, he's been disappointing no doubt about that. We'd all be delighted if he makes an impact when he comes back.

He has been awful for us, no eating of words will be had if that changes when he comes back. He has been anonymous.

However he seems a top lad and his stellar form for Ghana can only be good news for us. I really hope he can carry the form and confidence into the league.

I love how we're signing a winger on loan, when the one we already have on loan hasn't really been given much of a chance (compared to, say, McGeady), and now he's in the form of his life. Scored 2 goals for Ghana to put them into the African Nations Cup semi finals.

Atsu fires Ghana into Africa Cup final
MALABO - Christian Atsu has scored two goals as Ghana beat 10-man Guinea 3-0 at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to reach the tournament's semi-finals for the fifth straight time.

Atsu sandwiched his goals in the fourth and 61st minutes on Sunday around a score by Kwesi Appiah in the 44th minute for the Black Stars, who will play hosts Equatorial Guinea in the semis on Thursday.

Guinea keeper Naby Yattara was sent off with a red card four minutes into stoppage time.

While Ghana won Group C, Guinea reached the quarter-finals via the drawing of lots after they were even with Mali after group play.

Ghana, whose fourth title dates back to 1982, grabbed the lead after just four minutes. Andre Ayew sent a backheel across the face of the goal to Atsu, who easily turned the ball in for the early lead.

The Black Stars were not overwhelming but doubled the advantage a minute before the break after an error by the Guinea backline.

Djibril Paye played the ball back to Baissama Sankoh but the centre back mis-hit his clearance right into the path of Appiah, who slipped it under Yattara.

Atsu finished off Guinea with his second goal in the 61st minute.

The Everton winger collected the ball in the right side, cut inside and unleashed a bending, dipping left footer just over the reach of Yattara.

Guinea finished the match with 10 men as keeper Yattara was red-carded for his attack just outside the box on Asamoah Gyan.

Meanwhile Wilfried Bony scored with two headers on Sunday to help give the Ivory Coast a 3-1 win over Algeria and a spot in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations.

Bony nodded in a cross from Max Gradel in the 26th minute after being left completely alone at the far post in the quarter-final held in the Equatorial Guinea city of Malabo.

The Manchester City forward scored another in the 68th, heading in a free kick taken by club teammate Yaya Toure. Gervinho added a third in injury time as the Algerians pushed forward in a desperate attempt to equalize.

Hilal Soudani scored Algeria's goal in the 51st, taking a pass from Riyad Mahrez that trickled through a weak Ivory Coast defense and beating goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo.

balls to Chelski

+1

their business model is to buy up as much young talent as possible then farm them out on loan whilst they "mature" (usually at Arnhem) and then if the player isn't quite there (Lukaku, Bertrand to give two examples) sell them on for a very nice profit.
Good model if you have the money in the first place but I don't really understand why British players would want to be taken when young by the "Big 4" when it would be better to stay and get game time at a club you have grown up with (Rodwell, you plonker)

Im actually quite rooting for him now, usually it takes wingers a few months to settle and hes been rated through out his career so hopefully he can settle better when he comes back.
