My old man did that with Mum for years. He was absolutely hopeless when it had enough clobber on it to break her wrist.

I always got Nik some Chanel No5, some sexy gear, some comfy gear, (guess what she preferred), and a proper pressie that had some thought behind it. An engraved Zippo lighter with the first few lines of the song at her Dads funeral (Fields of gold) , for example.

As with last year, a smile, a prayer, and plenty of memories this year. She will be proper fuming in heaven with that stocking, bless her cottons.
