an alleged corrupt referee v Panifi

An alleged corrupt referee put us out in the quarterfinal - we beat the favourites Borussia Monchengladbach - a greek side managed by Puskas put us out on the away goal rule -Panathinaikos F.C.
Enough Neo-revisionism Joey...and others
We were all season average to shight
The crowd could see it Vs Keflavik, hence Westys tantrum.
Though tbh, thinking back on it we were averagely gash in the firstleg, just as we were averagely gash all of the season where we finished an averagely gash11th...this was their cup final, they were all over it, we weren't
If we had been better on our game it would not have come to dodgy away goals Reffs.
Edit; we dont do dynasties
Just as the 62-63 level of performance wouldve peed all over Inter
The 69-70 levels wouldve peed over the greeks and Ajax in the final
Everton that

PS dont even start me on the semi. The same applies

Just an interesting thought, I wonder if the holy trinity would have ever been formed if Tony Kay hadn’t been banned from football for that betting scandal. My dad said Kay was some player back in the 60s and it was heartbreaking to see his career end in such a way. Typical Everton some might say. If any of our older fanbase could answer this question.
Out of the holy trinity which player was Tony Kay most alike?

Joe Royles Biography say yes we had a bad season but a great cup run season and the ref was bent - taken out to the casino by the opposition the night before the game!
He says different to you!

Not doubting the Reff story
The fact is we were averagely gash for various reasons, the world cup being but one...
The fact still remains. On our game the dodgy reff wouldnt have mattered. They wouldnt have got an eady away goal to be dodgy about
That they got to the Reff meant that they thought they couldn't get that lucky again if the 'real slim shady' Everton had turned up
But we didn't
Face it
Edit; time for bed said degsy

Yes we were poor in the league - I have to disagree we had two great runs in The european cup to say the ref was dodgy read the reports on both games - they targeted Jimmy Husband in the first game - crocked him - the 2nd game we should have had a nailed on pen when Alan whittle was upended - in joes royles autobiography he reckons the Ref and deffo been got at - not dodgy but allegedly corrupt - we had beaten the favorites it was ours to win.....
no time for bed been posting some great old photos when it was a pleasure to watch that team!
please see the old photos thread!

Imagine telling Southall,Reid,Gray etc that going to Old Trafford, the pit or Stamford bridge would be an exceptable loss

Wasn't there a story that Gray threatened to chin any player who was there to just 'enjoy' the FA Cup final day and experience. That he expected and demanded victory.

I remember quote from a player, along the lines of "The Watford players were all saying in the build up how much they were going to enjoy the day. We wernt. We were there to win"

Sounds like sommet Gray would have said.

Thank you, that does sound better too, rather than threatening a straightener to a team mate..
Although Gary Stevens could have done with one in the 86 cup final. Maybe it was that level of intimidation missing in the 85/86 season? That stuffing up is not acceptable

I think Bobby Mimms had a part to play too. Or rather the absence of Mr. N. Southall
