Yes, I think you are right. Small mercies.

A good player was Freddy. My abiding memory of him was slipping in that dramatic goal against the mighty West Germany in injury time in the final group game in 1990. Cue bedlam.
For his family it probably isn’t fair, but living a life as a vegetable after so much football would have not been fair for him either. So it was indeed a mercy.

That’s my best memory of Rincon. My love for football began with the 1990 WC and that goal he made against Germany to allow Colombia to move forward to the next stage. He was the symbol of that golden generation of footballers that gave Colombians so much happiness.

Quite a few footballers have died in road accidents down the years, I can recall Laurie Cunningham and Kasmir Deyna, off the top of my head, but know there was others aswell.

Tbh I’m not, im going on a picnic with the family. I just noticed they scored and Im glad we are winning, but Colombia has been such a great disappointment in recent months that I need a break from them at the moment.
Not watching either I'm afraid. I see Yerry Mina is not in the squad so presumably still not fully recovered. I saw a report that he was in France watching his younger brother play for Colombia U20s in the Toulon tournament. They were suggesting he was talking to Marseille about a possible move. It would be a shame to see him go. Great character and our best defender but it's true he is injured too often. Enjoy your picnic anyway!

Thanks, we will. It is a gorgeous day to have a picnic.

I want Mina staying too but I also understand that keeping him would be too costly for us, especially given his injury record. It blows because he really makes a difference when he plays and also off the field, his euphoria is contagious. He is a great lad too, I just wish his body was more resilient.
