Computer geek anywhere?

Err, so we're talking big bucks to get it fixed, Suits?

without it in my hands (ooh err) i cant tell for sure.

your next move is simply based on how confident you are with getting your hands dirty. are you competent at taking the things apart and testing individually?

could some of the HSF (heatsink and fans) given up?

if the board or processor has overheated it will fail and will need replacing.

it could simply be the PSU (power supply unit) or a twisted cable/connection.

plenty of possibilities. find the brand, find an internet forum dedicated to that brand and ask there. Im an 'Abit' user and their official forums are the places i go when i need help and advice.

This happened to my laptop - i plugged in a normal monitor and continued to use it for another six months. Remembering to press fn and F5 every time i started up was a pain for a bit though.

My ex had one and exactly the same problem.

This was 5 years ago though.

Yeah sorry Neb but youre abit screwed on this one. Youll have to use an external monitor and it will be cheaper to buy a new one than getting it fixed.

Id be checking out the Lenovo. Purely because I like the music from the ads.

If you are giving up on it. I'll take a look before you bin it.

Before you buy another one, let me see if I can fix it. If I can, you can have it back for the price of postage and parts(if any). If not I'll send it back and postage is my shout(or bin it if you prefer).

I had a no beep problem recently and it turned out to be that one of the RAM sticks had gone tits up. Took it out and rebedded it. Worked again. More luck than judgement though me thinks

RAM frying or popping out is like 50% of problems I fix. It's become pretty much the top fix on my list when I look at bust machines (I don't fix pc's for a living or anything, but if you work in IT people assume that's what you do... and if you like it or not you will get asked by all and sundry about their pc problems.. I suppose its the same for mechanics and plumbers etc).

Ask Moyes to buy you a new one.

He,s got lodsa money.

see if you had said kenwright there instead of moyes, it might have actually been mildly amusing. managers don't spend their own money on player transfers you knobhead so it doesn't matter the slightest [Poor language removed] how much money moyes has.

if you're going to take shots at our team, atleast try to be clever about it you little piece of [Poor language removed].

For my ickle computer thread?

But before it's closed, thanks for all the help. It seems like we've got a repair on our hands or replacement if that is too much hassle. I'm uncomfortable taking things apart so I don't want to risk that. Plus, the wife would watch me like a hawk if I tried anything like that. Suddenly, it would be me that broke the damned thing!

I don't think "geek" crosses the line and I think that most people would agree.

Even if someone was having a go at someone, the word "geek" probably wouldn't accomplish much other than make the intended target fall over and laugh.

That's really, really kind of you, Ichigo. Hopefully we won't have to let it go just yet. As long as it costs less than a couple of hundred to fix then it's worth it. Plus, there is so much data on it that we need. We wouldn't want to let that stuff go. Cheers again though, mate. (y)

for the love of crack whores...

the info stored on the hard drive, is not lost - the capacity for the machine to access it is.

Its a dangerous and slippery slope where some individuals think for another set of individuals.
