then again, my old card which was a 7600gs says its pci express 16x as well... so that doesnt make sense :S

any one got any ideas why this might not load??? its fine in safe mode just cant boot up any other way
 
honestly jon, how many forums are there out in internet land?

all have official and unofficial forums.

register and ask an expert that knows more than the vast majority. a great percentage of the time they are only too happy to help. (its what a lot of them revel in)
 
Jon, the motherboard you linked quite plainly says it has a PCI-E x4 slot.

Another thing, your new HD 3850 is a PCI Express 2.0 card, which means it won't even work on a regular PCI-E 16 slot, you need to upgrade the motherboard to something with the PCI-E 2.0 support. Something like this:

Now you are going to have to pay as PIC-E 2.0 is brand new and only included in the higher-end mobo's.

its not a major dilemma dylan, that was my old motherboard, but since my cpu and new mobo didnt turn up yday i thought i would try it out, didnt realise it was a pci E (2) and even though the old mobo say pci E x4 it still seems to work with the pci E x16 although not the new (2.0 standard) lol

the delivery company came today, arrived at 7 am when everyone was up, but didnt knock (apparently out of courtesy) and left it on our bin outside, not hidden or anything.

come 10 o clock i went out to get the post, seen the delivery slip saying its on the bin, and guess what, its not their !!!

[Poor language removed] great aint it, but the delivery company are accepting liability as it was a sign for only package !!

just fighting my case with the computer store now to get my parts tomorrow and not have to wait until the claim is cleared.. grrrr
 
just looked at the graphics card again, its PCI (2) support, for future gaming.. so it will work on pci E x16 mobos
 

Does it have to be FPS? Have you tried your hand at Supreme Commander yet? Absolutely superb RTS game. Or Dark Crusade, another brilliant RTS. These are admittedly old, but they still rate in my book.
 
Not really playing many games right now, but those are the ones I do play on the PC ('cept the Wold in Conflict, although I would like to play it.) although I would add Oblivion to that as well.

My days consist of re-learning electronics and then when I am at home I have been running stress tests on the new cpu to make sure she is fully stable overclocked.
