Jones courted controversy in 2004 for an interview for popular sports magazine Sport-BILD. When asked whether there were gay footballers in the Bundesliga, he said "hopefully not."

:D:D:D:D:D:D

Yeh he had a few more run ins than that especially when the Schalke crowd gave him some stick. Controversial but wants to play for the US national team. We'll see.

I would add officiating in the "needs improvement" area. I know everyone knocks refs everywhere including the Premier League, but the inconsistency of the MLS officials is something of a joke. There are a few decent officials but I see way too many strange decisions in almost every game.

Strange decisions is being generous.

Don't get me started on the referee we had against RSL last week.

You are correct on the refs.

How Donovan got more than Howard and Dempsey I'll never know.

I like Dempsey. He's one of my favorite US players and I also said he'd be for Fulham what Cahill is for us. However, he was god awful for long stretches of matches, looked fatigued for the group stage matches, got caught overdribbing and was caught out of posiiton more often than he was in position. he should have been subbed against Egypt. Bradley deserves props for leaving him in.

Howard didn't play against Egypt and was probably a 6-7 in his 1st 2. Played great against Spain and Brasil though.

Donovan showed up for every match. Even in the 1st Brasil match he was pretty good and the only one who put in a decent effort (I never thought I'd ever type that) after we went down 1-0 against them

Casey was a 1 but got a 2 becasue he was put in the Egypt match in the 91th to time waste and by getting possession of the ball and kicking it to the corner flag.
