Thanks for the info, much appreciated. It's great to have some Ajax fans here. I worked in Holland between 1986-1989 and used to go to The Meer regularly with some Dutch friends. Had the honour of watching that fantastic team with Van Basten and Rijkaard they were just brilliant! Was going to write a letter to anyone at EFC to get the cheque book out and buy them and before we knew it they were off to Milan :(
Had a great time in Holland, will never ever forget the European Championship win in 1988, brilliant party after the semi-final win against Germany. Was in Haarlem and I swear at midnight there was NO beer left anywhere in town!
That sounds an incredible time to have been there! I've got a lot of time for these Dutch, I've worked with a few Dutchies and they're good people.

Well yes, Cahill played there because ultimately he wasn't good enough to play central midfield really. You may find the same with Klaasen (I hope not) but he will never lose his knack to score goals. I'm happier with him than Pickford to be honest.

If Pickford can develop his commanding of the box and gathering of crosses he will be the best in the league.

That will be the game changer this club has needed for 2 generations.

Klaassen will hopefully prove an astute signing who will compliment the skill set of the other midfielders.

Both he and Sandro (if he signs) need to give up the ghost on their hair and bic the lot off.
Invoke the double slap-head power of Carsley/Gravesen for a new generation!

Also, how boss are we now, that we can sign a 24yo dutch international for 20+mil and his thread drops to page 2 in a couple of days!

Although he is from ajax it will be a good player for everton

Allthough? lol come on man, leave the rivalry in Holland..
You know very well Ajax produces quality-players. Feyenoord should be focusing on that more as well.. that seems to be our faith in the Eeredivisie. That will also be the key to leaving psv behind, and be able to compete with Ajax on a consistent level, not the potential new stadium.

How do you get used to the pace of the game if you have hardly any yourself?

Huh?

I meant the pace that the game is played at, the movement of the players, the slick pitches compared to Holland, it takes some players time, but ive gotta a feeling it wont take Davy long.

Hes a supreme talent and when he scores 20+ goals next season im gonna make you cry.

Sounds like he has a lot of catching up to do doesn't it? That's why I'd never buy from leagues like that one he's coming from.

He will have 7-8 weeks of training before he steps on a pitch, the boys will get him up to speed in his first training session, the first week will be hard, but week 2 he will find his stride, by week 3 he will be hitting 40 yarders in the top bin and making Jordan panic.

You dont need to worry about Davy, Dave.

Like that Suarez lad?
One slips through every now and again.

I think Klaassen will be acceptable. No more than that. What I've seen of him outside Holland (where Dirk Kuyt is the gold standard, btw) in the EL I dont rate. I dont see a very clever player who could come in and do the job we have no one can do here. I dont think he'll break too many teams down sitting back deep.

Still, he's going to have some qualities.

As an Ajacied I can tell you that in my view this is the right move at the right time.
He has won the title mutiple times at Ajax, been captain, best player of the Eredivisie, played a European final and is loved by most of the fans. He deserves to make a nice move to a top-league and Everton seems like a good match. Koeman will know him well and wont bench him very quickly, which is probably a big reason for him to choose Everton. A top 3 club would have been too big a step I think, as he isnt a specialist and isnt the most physically imposing guy out there.
However he does excell at being very allround, decent and has a good footballbrain, fantastic mentality and team-spirit. He could play every position in midfield and would allways get a 7 at least. The very critical and sceptical might find him boring or average, but they arent looking at the full picture. He is the kind of player that looks average and does ridiculously effective things that you dont expect, almost like a german haha. As oppposed to a player who looks sensational but always seems to dissapoint and is busy with other things in head, like a Depay for example.
At Ajax we are very spoiled with technically gifted players, I wont have to name names, because everybody who follows football a bit knows them. He did get some citicism because of that, but he proved himself to be a great player for Ajax and most people who criticized him had to admit they underestimated him.
I think he is a safe choice to make if you know what you are doing. He also often scores the decisive goals, or the equaliser, not the 4-0. In that respect he was our most important player of the last couple years for sure! I also love how sometimes he seems to be everywhere at the right moment, whether its defensive or attacking.
People who compare him to other Eredivisie-players, Dont! Ajax is in a league of their own when it comes to scouting, developing and maturing talent and every player that left for a big sum has turned out to be great! Maybe except for Babel and 1 or 2 I cant think of right now.
I expect him to succeed, unless he gets ridiculous injuries ( which he isnt prone to) or if the coach leaves and some dumb cnut comes in.
ill keep checking in on him, I hope you guys will be nice for him the first few months, give him some confidence, then he cant really fail.

How do you like them lemons Daveyk
