Came here backpacking to get away from Walter Smith's insistence on playing six centre halves in every match. Met an Aussie girl and stayed. Wages are higher, career opportunities (especially as a musician) are better and the weather is generally great (apart from when we get a week of 40+ degrees).

Absolutely despise the cheating and win at all costs attitude regarding sports here. Even at an amateur level it's ridiculous. There's also still a lot of racism/sexism/transphobia on display in regional Australia - though not so much in big cities like Melbourne. We're a long way from the rest of the world and I miss being able to do a two hour flight and be in a completely different country.

Regarding the flora and fauna, it's not something that we think about on a daily basis. We occasionally have a Brown snake or Funnel Web spider in the garden, but neither creature will look for trouble. If you leave them alone you're fine. Magpies and Huntsman spiders are horrible but they won't kill you.
