I have often wondered why this spirit is in the Australian psyche, I tend to think it's a kind of "little dog" syndrome. There is a perception we must prove ourselves on the world stage. Cricket seems to be where it comes out worst - beat the Old Dart at all costs.Me too. From Warne/McGrath predicting 5-0 Ashes victories to Warner/Smith cheating then throwing young Bancroft under the bus and Chappell ordering his brother to bowl underarm, absolutely despicable.
I have a soft spot for the Socceroos, and I get behind Aussie athletes at the Olympics, but the rest can GTF.
I think some credit has to be given to the australian cricket fans in some instance, the sandpaper stuff was essentially fans including the aussies saying 'no, this is our game and you don't do that'. I think from memory the ICC were talking about 3 week fans and it was the public outcry that saw such heavy punishments enforced.I have often wondered why this spirit is in the Australian psyche, I tend to think it's a kind of "little dog" syndrome. I particularly disliked Merv Hughes. I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall him gobbing toward an opposition batsman - it might have been another Aussie bowler, but I think it was him. I felt ashamed to be an Aussie.
Call me old fashioned, but I still like good sportsmanship.
Having said all of the above, I think it's funny the bed wetting on here over losing the ashes

You're quite correct. England failed to win the ashes. The ashes are not lost
Why? Ever been to Aus?Hate everything about the spot
Then, for some bizarre reason, refer to us back here as the colonists.A country of convicts and ten pounds poms who drove the natives off their own land and into a cycle of poverty and drug addiction

Australia retained, England didn't lose.
