I lived there for close to a year. Loved it for a hundred different reasons. Almost decided to stay, but looking back it was the right decision to leave. Before I went out there I was told "no matter what your weakness is... drink, food, women, drugs, gambling etc, you'll easily find it there and be able to go deeper than before" and they were right. As a country it has so much potential, but it likely will always be the mess that it is now until some form of black/white coalition government can take control and put some order in place, because the ANC is only interested in feathering their own nest and as the years go by things seem to be spiraling gradually more and more out of control.

I'd highly recommend going there, but take a lot of care and attention because it can be super dangerous if in the wrong place at the wrong time. I never had any hassle, but I've always so far been lucky that way.

sounds utopian and in a utopian society would work, but we live in regressive times. Identity-Politics has arrived in ZA too, there's little chance of a best-of-both-worlds approach while its ideological poison has a hold on folk.

Paid a visit to our operations in Jo’berg many years ago. Loved the people I met, but seeing a super-affluent area of houses with ‘armed response security’ signs on their external walls and fences before seeing a massive shantytown just feet away from the last big house was a proper eye opener….
