Crap Everton fullbacks

Thought I would share this, perhaps mean more to the over 30's.

I was once given a photocopy of a 'ragmag' back in 1989 ish, a page dedicated to Everton..

The team was:
Southall, McDonald, Hinchcliffe, Ratcliffe, Keown, Whiteside, Nevin, McCall, Sharp, Cottee, Sheedy.

The short of it was that we had paid well over the odds for a less than average full back in McDonald, infact he was slated.
The players who were given the most credit were Nevin and Whiteside. Whilst Sheedy was identified as a social drinker!
Oh and also that Sheedy and Keown had a bit of a set-to one time when Sheedy told Keown what he thought of him as a footballer, apparently!

That's not a bad team. Whiteside, despite me never forgiving him for 85, was an ace footballer when his knees permitted. I can remember him destroying Forest or someone in a mid week game around that time. I thought we'd signed Hinchcliffe later than that. Memory ffs.

Keown lamped Sheedy in Southport wasn't it? Keown was sound when he found his feet. Good defender.

It could have been 90 or 91 I suppose, like you say the memory is a wicked beast sometimes!

I honestly never warmed to Whiteside, he made me cry in 85, THE TREBLE FFS, 10 men, FFS, to think, that was the height of dissapointment back then, League Title, European trophy and crying over losing a Cup Final, spoilt, utterly spoilt.

Absolutley THIS! Love you MG.

Whiteside was the only player good enough to score that goal past the best keeper in the world. That was my consolation, such as it was.

Show him inside Pat, just jockey him inside Pat. Come on Pat, take him to the corner fla....oh ffs.

Must have been 1990 +, was Kendalls second spell after Graham Taylor was offered the England job ahead of him...

That team never reached its potential, Nevin was a good buy from Chelsea. Anyway, Neil McDonald. Was he a Colin Harvey buy then?
