Cricket

India 2/7. History tells us that 9 times out of 10 they wouldn't make over 175, but England have a 40 year old "pace" bowler and 2 spinners with zero experience so I probably agree with the bookies.

I didn't see all of it, but from what I did see the Indian bowlers gave us very little to work with.
They bowled well but England stopped rotating the strike, and Bairstow's dismissal first over after the break completely altered the game.

I didn't understand Foakes innings at all either. He just stood there and blocked, and took 1 an over, then got out to an absolute nothing shot.

Absolutely awful, the worst day of play in this mini era. They have obviously had other poor days but this is the first time they've looked so confused. I don't know if they listened to the outside noise but that batting was out of character and nonsensical, Crawley aside they all played to survive on a cracked oitch against quality spin, mental.

As for the decision to open the bowling with our two worse spinners and spead the field..... forget about it.

The one major criticism that I think is fair of England under Stokes/Mccullum is that they repeatedly fail to recognise when they are on top.

The bowling against the India tail in the first innings allowed them easy runs by spreading the field. They allowed the game to drift. The lad should have been 100 not under 50.

And then second innings with the bat, to be effectively 150-3 and then collapse in a heap through a lack of application. No one seemed to know what to do. They either were playing reverses from ball 1 or trying to block every ball with no intent. Rotating the strike is fine when you are ahead.

They don't understand when they are on top they need to reduce the risk and not give anything easy away.

We can talk about tactics all we like, and they're not always great, but the fact of the matter is we don't have many good players. I'm not sure we have a single world class bowler anymore.
