He nearly died but now runs a very successful charity foundation which makes a lot of money for blood cancer research. His riding (not as a competitor) of the tour de France post his recovery was pretty epic. I've met him and he is (in the words of Arry Redknapp) a top top top bloke.
 
Alan perhaps you know this, I went to school early 70s and a mate of mines brother played for palace his name has been bugging me. I think Malcom Allison was manager at the time and the guys surname was Johnson was a welsh international I believe. Hope you can help as has been annoying me.

That would be Jeff Johnson mate, who I remember as being a decent winger.
Jeff D Johnson, born Cardiff, 26 November 1953. signed December 1973 from Swansea. 92 (6) appearances, 5 goals. Joined Sheffield Wednesday in July 1976. Played in the FA Cup semi final defeat to Southampton at Stamford Bridge in April 1976
 

Thats his name thanks Alan, I think if memory serves me right his brother said he was on 100 quid a week at the time with a 20 quid win bonus and 10 quid a tie funny how you remember lil trivia things

I wonder if he still has nightmares about McFaddens goal in stoppage time against Charlatan? One of my lads favourite ever Goodison moments.

They had a good 60 mins against Arsenal so they know how to step up

Use Thornton Heath Station in Brigstock Road as there are no trains (bus service only from London Bridge) to Norwood Junction.
From Thornton Heath it will take about 30 mins to Victoria and then about 30 mins to Euston on the tube. Most of the trains have just the one change but there is one that needs three so watch you don't get on that.
