Cycling thread

So G did his tt still with his warm-up gilet on.
Cost him a fair few seconds.
How could nobody notice?
If he had a brain he'd be dangerous. Good legs though - should go well this Tour.

Nice to see someone unexpected take the prologue jersey. Ganna slow puncture apparently in the final stages but not sure if it made much of a difference.

Tomorrow could have some drama - some weather expected and it goes over a massively long sea bridge.

He said he was 'cosy'. Needs that sensei from karate kid that throttles Johnny with the second paced trophy to have a word. 18th on day one!

Seems they prefer the Champion of France, maybe he's not fated to break the record ?
The French champion only made the team because of another COVID case. If it was Jacobsen that tested positive, it would've been Cavendish

Anyway, I don't doubt for a second Quick Step would've taken Cav in the first place if he was anywhere near good enough.

This is the tour, you've got to bring the A-team.

He didn't look it at the Giro tbh. The sprint field in that race was relatively weak so one stage was a below par return. Jacobsen has been the best sprinter this year so you can understand it. In the Giro he was getting beaten by guys like Gaviria and Demare, which isn't A team imo.

As we know the Tour is about advertising and headlines, one stage win for Cavendish would have made headlines for the team for days. If sprints were always won by the fastest rider they'd be far easier to call. Knowing where to place yourself takes years of experience. Time will tell if Jakobsen was the right choice.

Well jakobsen has just won stage 2.
Sélection justified ?

It was closed when he didn't make the starting line on stage one,but that wasn't my original question.
The reason Quick Step is so successful lies in Lefevre's talent to make the right choice at the right time.
Signing Cavendish and Philippe Gilbert at an advanced age at low wages... And getting a tune out of them...
But also choosing to discard them when they're over the top.

That's what's happened here. He made a decision purely on fitness and form. Yet again he's right.

No way Cav wins a sprint like today's - that was a young man's effort from Jakobsen (and Wout). Raw power.

OTOH you could bet the farm on Cav winning at some point if he was here - his form is superb. His national champs win was huge, he lit that race all day in hard conditions.

Just a shame for Cav the h2h decision is against Jakobsen. Maybe next year, but feel this sort of form is very hard to hit for an older sprinter. It might have been his last shot.
