Cycling thread

I rode the cyclotouriste event a couple of times in the 1980s.
One year it was fine, the other it rained.
The 240 km route took us (reasonably fit club riders and racers) over 9 hours.
Went over most of the famous paves, not the Arenberg though, it's a protected monument.
I remember we used cyclo cross tubs, good on the cobbles but a bit slow on the tarmac.
It's a funny one isn't it? If you said 250+km with just 1,400m or so of elevation you'd ordinarily think that was pretty straightforward, especially in a group, but the pave must make it a completely different proposition.

We weren't racing , more like a club run.
Of course there were punctures fallings off , feeding stops and it's slow over wet cobbles.
I just marvel at the pros riding 'haut de pavé ' at 40+ km/h.

Dont. Its not fun (unlike riding Flanders), it's lonely and endless and its a long walk if your bike breaks down (a very real possibility).

I wonder why Pog isnt participating. Hes destroying everybody on the cobbles. He'd win solo.
In his post race interview on French TV Poj said he'd need to put on several kilos to ride there P-R.
Said he suffered on the cobbles.
Who'd have believed it.

Pedersen must be one of the favourites for PR, looked very strong on Sunday. Dry forecast though, he'd prob prefer a downpour.
Ganna will be interesting to watch - he's targeting the race and is in form. Most powerful rider in the world can do some stuff at PR no doubt. Just hard to see him hanging with vdP and vA at the sharp end on the cobbles. They've been on the pave since they were off the teat, and it only takes a couple of sub-optimal lines and a gap can form.

MTBing in Snowdonia today (weather has been nice in Wales this weekend), then back for second half.

Fantastic race but robbed of the denouement with Wout's flat - G1 was ridiculously strong. Wout goes to the finish without that flat no bother, he'd ridden the perfect race. Can't really argue with vdP winning though - strongest, most aggressive rider on the day.

Forgot that my road bike has been at my brothers since i moved house. Frame is in decent nic but the chain is rusted as it was left out in the rain for a few months.

Roughly how much are you talking to get it back to working condition?

A new chain isn't too expensive. Is the chainring/cassette also a bit rusty? Maybe try giving it a clean/relube and see if that makes any difference first.

That Poj is a beast. Just rode them all off his wheel. Solo tt for the last 30km.
Tom Pidcock tried to go with him but finished 3rd.
Amstel Gold today from the hilly part of the Netherlands.
TP absolutely empty at the end there - did well to hold on.

Pog doing a different sport. Doing the triple Amstel / Fleche / LBL - he's not done brilliantly at the Fleche, which is on Weds. It's not one I've really watched so don't know if there's something about the route that isn't a good fit. Or more likely he just smokes everyone anyway.

La Flèche Wallonne could more suit the sprinters,Pederson again?
Pog will definitely smoke them in LBL though.
