Dai Davies - sad news

I met him in about 1986. My last year of junior school. The school had organised a sponsored run for a charity Dai was involved with and he came down and spent the whole day with us kids, I still have a photo of us together somewhere, I was only 11 at the time but I remember him being a really lovely fella who had time for everybody.
Sad news.

Same here, came to my primary school in Flintshire, I think it was for a heart foundation sponsored run? I still have the photo with him somewhere too. I remember him being a really nice chap, he stuck around all day and chatted to everyone. Though probably got his ear chewed off by my Dad. Terrible news. Thoughts with him and his family.

Very sad time for all Dai’s family. Dai joined Everton in our championship year 1970 and was understudy to Gordon West, I think he left in 1977, don’t know if he was still there when we played Villa three times in the league cup final, we might have won it if he was. He then joined Wrexham and won the third division championship in his first season when Wrexham recorded their lowest ever loss in league games in a season in which Dai played a big part. Capped fifty two times by Wales he had a good career and I think Everton were the only English team he played for.

Sad to hear about Dai. A proud Welshman, I believe he wrote his autobiography in Welsh. Despite his nickname, 'Dai the Drop', I always rated him higher than Lawson and would actually put him on a par with the present England keeper.

Sad news.

I remember that he coached a session of a footy camp that I went to as a kid in about 1976. He was really down to earth and really got into it, giving great advice to the wannabe keepers and afterwards he happily chatted and signed autographs for everyone.

From the daughter of Dai Davies;

He’s doing really well thank you. My sister saw him today and he is building his strength. We feel the messages of support are incredibly powerful and helpful in keeping him positive! Thank you so much for your help it really is appreciated. We’ve been inundated with good wishes
