2024/25 David Moyes

"We need plenty...well maybe not plenty....we need several in." "I'm hopeful we can add a couple of new faces...but I've been hopeful before weeks ago".

Typical of him in transfer windows. Full of big statements early on then caves in to owners and CEOs who dont make it happen.

We need 7 more in here to have an adequate squad for the coming season. Not "several", not "a few more".

7 in which positions?

I don't think this is the main point here though, that's Dave's opinion we will argue the toss as to how many we need.

I have it as 6 we need, what do you have it as?

I would consider the fact our manager has gone from wanting 9 or 10 in to dropping that to several which to means 2 to 3 is the major point Dave is making and you can't argue with it as the words have come directly out of his mouth.

Well if we sign 5 more players (my number) that takes us to 9 which is what he originally said.

But I also don't really try nail Moyes down to specifics when it comes to numbers as he has a habbit of saying weird things whenever numbers are involved (like when asked about how many games we have left at Goodison, how many games in a season etc.)

We need another striker, I don’t want to go into the season with just Barry and Beto.

Barry might take time to adapt and Beto can’t be 100% relied upon.

We obviously need a RB and a new CM, despite how well Garner played last night.

A RW / right sided attacker also so I’d say a minimum 4 but preferably 5.

Think that would be adequate to get us to January, even allowing for letting Patterson go and possibly Tim, Chermiti or Armstrong out on loan.

Interesting comment: "We might even have people in the squad who we’d like to put them out on loan or do other things with them, so we’re needing to generally add to the squad."

Sounds like 'other things' is selling players, since there is not much else apart from keeping or loaning them.

Thought he was out of order criticising Beto in public like that, Fine do it behind closed doors if it needs saying not in front of the world's press.
Beto doesn't look the most confident of lads and looks the type to reacte to a bit more support.
How would Moyes reacted if he were under pressure, Beto or one of the other players came out on tv and said well I think the manager got the team or tactics wrong and has been playing me out of position?
Sure he wouldn't like it.

Sounds like the pecking order of authority. A couple of occasions last night I wanted Beto to go for goal quicker, because he got crowded out. It was clear last season he'd been given instruction to snatch at chances asap. He isn't the most composed. Hurrying and harrying he's ok.

He is a work in progress.
Getting better looks like he is more a threat just being off the Cuff so to speak just having a crack at goal rather than control and place it type of player .
Moyes seems to be in a bit of a mood lashing out at players snd thd tranfer committee don't blame him on the last bit but I don't really like to see players singled out like that.
I honestly think Moyes will get shut of him as soon as he gets the chance.

I can just remember his past when he used to do stuff like this regularly, lowering of expectations.

Its painful but even more so as we are told a new era is here, that's my angst about the new era rhetoric the club has been pushing.

I do get the feeling he would sell Beto, Patterson and McNeil if he could.

He's 28 in 6 months. He is what he is. The kids that learned touch and control earliest stand out, the ones that didn't also stand out.
Any half chance, go for it! He isn't going to transform into Romario. If Moyes was genuinely pee'd off with him, he'd have hooked him.
Considering the heat and the pitch, we looked a unit last night, and kept up in terms of fitness. How very like us to raise our game.
