Does lampard deserve credit as well? Nobody seems to mention him, but he is widely seen as a very limited manager who had to go.

Dyche kept us up, but was struggling massively this season. It's all a moot point though because he asked the owners to sack him. No manager deserves credit after that.

I’ve got two criteria for sacking managers:

They consistently under perform the quality of the squad over time

They are definitely relegating us if things don’t change.


Martinez falls under the first category after his third season so I wanted him to go.

Koenan I believe was taking us down. I know people look at the table and say he wasn’t but that team had no pace, couldn’t run, couldn’t pass, the manager hated being here, was wasting money every window. We were well rid.

Silva I felt was neither he got let down by Everton’s recruitment and Keane, Davies, Siggurdson phoned it in enough to move Moshiri’s trigger finger much too early.

Benitez was taking us down so got fired.

Lampard deserves credit for keeping us up in my view, that run in was arguably more impressive than the one the season after (although he did have Richarlison Mina Gordon Iwobi Allan) . Beating Newcastle with 10 men, United, Chelsea, Leicester away (when they were good), and Palace was an unbelievable finish to keep us up.

The next season I really wanted him to kick on and be the manager for a long time to build something, after the Palace game I thought we were going in the right direction and there was a banner in the crowd with his face on. Then he lost just about every game and the players were arguing with fans. I didn’t want him to go but by that point he had to go.

So yes he does deserve credit but at that time he had to be fired. Dyche never got himself in either of those positions for me so I backed him. Same way Moyes never did during his time here.
