2024/25 David Moyes

I feel much better than I did with Dyche in charge.

Maybe it’s the right appointment for where we are currently. We need a lift and I do believe he has a passion for Everton.

His ambition was always to manage Manchester United so when offered the chance he was never going to pass that opportunity by.

His next 2 appointments after Man U not working out do raise question marks about him.

He comes back wiser and having done a very good job at West Ham.

I feel that the Friedkins have acted swiftly which they had to do.
In some respects hell be a continuation of Dyche, in that he will be pragmatic and I don't expect us to be playing free flowing football.

I do think given funds he'll look to improve the squad and raise quality to the point we will play football. Albeit tempered with pragmatism, particularly in games he craps it in (big six aways, derby games etc).

For People stressing about the length of the contract remember they aren't worth the paper they're on.
Beginning of the season would not have looked at Moyes, as it turned out probably for the best now, think he deserves some commitment from Everton, longer than end of season that had been touted. So two and half years it is. Surely going to be costly if it's ended by Everton before then.

Exactly. That’s why I don’t get why the knife to a gunfight comment boiled so many fans’ P155. It wasn’t meant to belittle the club, it was a way of pointing out the difference in finances available to build a team from compared to the top teams, and it was a bit of psychological gamesmanship against the opposition - set us up a David vs Goliath so the weight of expectation is on them not us, taking pressure off our players and heaping it on theirs. It wasn’t saying we are a small club, it was saying that based on several previous years of poor performance, and with a limited budget to work with, we simply didn’t have the ability to assemble an expensive star-studded team of recognised top internationals like others could. Obviously didn’t go down well with the fans but it was the reality of the club at the time, we were fishing (very successfully) for gems from lower divisions or from abroad, not splashing millions on superstars. And although us fans remembered better days in the mid to late 80s the fact is the club had taken a nosedive for a while, seen a brief resurgence under Royle, then nosedived to mediocrity and worse before Moyes came along. He transformed us into a cohesive and for the most part, competitive team. One that fought hard every game and actually entertained us again after the dreariness of the Walter Smith years. Is he the right man for us now? In an ideal world no, but in the precarious position we find ourselves in, and the need to bin-off Dyche now rather than in the summer forcing our hand, he’s probably a safer gamble than many other shouts. I just hope those fans who were against his return can bury the hatchett and get behind him and the team for the rest of the season.
It was blown well out of proportion by the teeth gnashes amongst our fanbase.
He was referring to the resources available to both clubs, and he wasn’t wrong.

Klopp used to say the same thing all the time when they were trailing City, even though he often outspent them and nobody batted an eyelid.

Absolutely not my 1st choice, and do get the points made for & against him BUT he’s better than Dyche hands down.

I’m willing to look past the odd contentious statement or action from him over 12 years ago in all honesty.

A lot of water under the bridge & too long to hold a grudge. But that’s just me. Respect everyone’s opinions either way.

I’ll be backing him as the opposite isn’t going to help keep us in the league.

I'm so underwhelmed with this appointment. I have nothing against Moyes, I'm not even bothered about how he left last time and what happened after that, he is just an average manager to me who doesnt excite me in the slightest. A short term contract would have been fine but 2.5 year contract is ridiculous. Going into this new stadium was the opportunity for optimism and changing our approach yet it feels like nothing has changed. I'm hoping I'm proved wrong but I can see us being here again next season and the season after, fighting relegation with slightly less dire football. When we should have been looking for a manager with a game plan and a philosophy which could excite us and transform our great club back to where it should be. Not buying this he is the best we could expect, he is a safe pair of hands etc etc. Just look at the likes of Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth and Villa with their recent struggles or not even being in the league and where they are now after clever appointments. Lots were fighting relegation with us and now completely left us behind. Yet we do the same thing, rinse and repeat and expect some sort of different outcome. We look at managers, just like the players we sign - only within a certain select pool which isn't very good. We act like a small club, run so poorly with no fresh ideas and deserve what we then get in my opinion. The club bores me when it should be exciting going into our amazing new stadium. What's there to be excited about on the pitch with this appointment. Can't help feeling utterly deflated. Like I said, hope I'm massively wrong.
Agree. New owner, new stadium. But the same relegation dogfight narrative recirculates…

Did you ever get to play in the FA Cup with him mate.
