2017/18 Davy Klaassen

That role Davies played last night is where Davy should play. Bit of a free role close to the CF, pressing and trying to get in the box. Honestly, I think Klaasen would be more effective than Davies at it.

I was going to say the exact same thing. Davies had a decent game yesterday in my eyes but Klaassen next to Gueye could really work.

Davies being back up to him with Rooney/Gylfi/Walcott behind Tosun (assuming he isn't terrible) is quite an interesting side.

He can't be any less effective than Morgan can he?

There is a player there
It’s just a matter of finding where in the system he can fit.
The free role mentioned above may suit him as he has a reputation for arriving late to the box to score and assist

Anybody who played with him and those with a good knowledge of the game will tell you he’s the best English player in the last 30 yrs and I’d incude Gasgoine in that

When he retired the amount of legendary players that commented on him was astounding. Maldini, platini, pele, Xavi said he was the best player he's ever played against and Zidane even said the biggest regret of his career was not playing in the same team as scholes.

Proper Everton to have a player (Barkley) that holds onto the ball to long and slows attacks, then replace him with a player that doesn't hold onto the ball enough and plays first time balls all the time. He hasn't been great but also hasn't been given a run, I would like to see him given 7-8 games on the bounce to see what we need to do with him in the summer

Well with Walcott, tosun + possibly bolasie on the pitch he might actually get his first realistic chances of a forward pass in like 6/7 months of being at the club! Allardyce did sound ike a very hurt man after his loan deal fell through yesterday tho + am pretty sure that wasnt in thinking of benefits to klaassen, he's prob worried about his quick thinking forward passing and playing with the ball on the ground, dont think he wants it rubbing off on any one else!

I think Davies is a better fit, but agreed that they are the only two midfielders we have that COULD on any given day, link the defensive with the attack. Not sure either of them are GREAT at it, but they are the best we've got. Put them around Gana and one of Siggy/Rooney, and think we'd be okay. I would probably play Bolaisse / Tosun / Walcott, but I understand wanting to get both Siggy and Rooney in the field as they both can really pass and make those killer final balls.

Come on, Sam, give Davy a real chance! If we use Davis and him the same way Davis was used our last match, I think that would fit everyone perfectly. I also think, based on what kind of player Klaassen is, playing him in that role would add us a lot of chances for us. Davis did well, but he’s not as good a passer as Davy.

I think with the signing of Walcott and Coleman coming back that their pace and getting in behind will help Klaasssn. That and if Tosun can hold the ball up I think we are in a better position to take advantage of his style.

Back to the original point mate, it really does make you think what happened with regard to Klassen. You’d think anyone would welcome the challenge of going to a team challenging for the league and still in the champions league at the expense of training with Everton. If it is true it is down to the image rights story, then Klassen has obviously put money before his footballing career. Sadly a trait we see too often in modern day football.
What’s this story about image rights?

I swear on all things Holy that this kid has got something to offer us. Unfortunately we won't see any of it until we get a manager that plays actual football.

I get what you’re saying and obviously as one of infamous ‘number 10s’ that position off the striker is the role he was probably earmarked for.

In terms of what Davies did on Wednesday though, I can’t think of a role less suited to klaassen. Davies had success because he was a bundle of energy, chasing things down, harrying and putting himself about. He was also carrying the ball forward and was willing to put his body on the line to win free kicks etc. Each one of those things is something klaassen has struggled to do since he came over.

He played a superb through ball against Limassol to put Lookman clean through but that's the grand total of his through ball contributions.

Those saying he should replace Davies though, I agree that would be his best position but I'm not too sure he offers all the positive things Davies does. For a start even when Tom isn't bang at it, he never hides from the ball, continues to ask for it, still makes forward runs and drags the opposition about. I don't think we've seen Klassen do any of that and even if he needed a settling in period, you still expect to see some signs from a professional footballer.
