I'd sue the sh1te outta SWP and Chelsea. If i was denied to play the game i love because of a bad tackle i'd be devestated and want whatever i could ever get out of it

Agreed.

SWP should have to give all his wages to Ashton for the rest of his career.

On one condition.

That being that Ashton himself never ever at any point in his career made a challenge which could of resulted in injury to another player.

Only then can he take some kind of moral highground and claim damages for what was just an unfortunate accident.

Football is a contact sport and injuries will occur. Ashton, like every other player would of been well aware of that when he choose to play the game and take the high wages on offer.

Sucks for the guy his career is over so early but thats life unfortunatly.

Unlucky for him, a good player and not a nice thing to happen to anyone doing the job they love but he's been paid handsomely for it and these things happen, occupational hazard. Could be like a lot if people laid off struggling ti make ends meet.

No doubt the media are acting like over the top blerts, like a Michael Jackson lite, get Elton in on the piano.

Its a damn shame thats for sure. But I agree with chico, hes made his wonga, he wont have to work a tap in his life. And reading these comments its almost as if hes died.

Former West Ham boss Harry Redknapp, who is now at Tottenham, told BBC Radio 5 live: "He was a good player, a terrific striker.

"He was in the England squad and looked like he was going to play in the forthcoming game when he picked up that injury.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger once contemplated signing the powerful striker when he was at Crewe.

"It is very said that Dean Ashton has to retire because I always thought he was a very intelligent and efficient player," said the Frenchman.

"I liked him personally as a player and as a personality on the pitch. It is sad, but in our job you depend on your health.

"The first quality of a good football player is that they have good health and we forget that many times."

And fair play Dario nails it.

Crewe manager Dario Gradi, who gave Ashton his professional debut at the age of 16, was not surprised by the announcement.

"We'd all seen it coming for a long time," Gradi said. "He's been injured for a while and I think that Dean was prepared for it.

"It's a shame for Dean but it's a great shame for England. They are crying out for a big striker and that is what he is.

"The saving grace for Dean is that he has had a bit of a career and will have made enough money not to have to work again."

Am I the only one who is a comparrison to Vic in this thread, his career is in the balance caused by a vicious assuault from Kevin Nolan.......................he should sue the crap out of Newcastle and Nolan for that tackle, more so if his career is over

Sad to hear he was a really good player at a young age, anyone hear Danny Williamson on talk sport last night offering advice!

If i remember correctly we were linked with him strongly when he was at Crewe and Norwich.

We were, our scouts didn't rate him..................

I think it was Wright in net for us, but Ashton put an amazing header away against us at Goodison from miles out. Some of his goals for Norwich were rather amazing as well. A strike force of Cole and Ashton would have been some powerful forward line. (Though I cannot help feeling uneasy at the idea of West Ham being not too sorrowful at being able to claim a load of insurance for themselves on him, especially with a possible takeover looming. Think Gaydamak asset stripping pompey before he sold up.)
