So it sounds like if he ends up being part of a banging Everton team that's in Europe and doing very well it will end up at 40m and if he ends up being part of the first team and just alright it will be 20m and if he's so bad that he hardly plays it will be practically free. Sort of an interesting deal.

I'm guessing there will be about 5-10m of that fee which will be triggered if he extends his contract with us.

From memory we had 2.5-3.5m of the Rooney fee paid in that way when we sold him to United

I'd imagine against stronger opposition we'll see Allan + Douc with VDB or Alli benched. There's a few possibilities.

Unfortunately I think they're all bad possibilities. You've got two plausible 8s who are closer to 10s and two 8s. No defensive sitting player anywhere to be found and even when you go with three it is possible you'll have 1 or 2 (and hell sometimes Doucoure is so useless in the middle third it could be all 3) that aren't having much of an impact except in the final third.

For me it is a poor balance but also I get we have little choice at the moment.

From the reports I've seen it looks like an initial free transfer then a £10m payment once he's played 20 games which means it's obviously not a free transfer. Sky seem to be the only ones saying it'll be up to £40m so I can only assume they're thinking £200k a week salary over 2 1/2 years plus the £10m takes it to around £36m total.
If we can get Dele back to his best form then it'll be a bargain at that price.
