2023/24 Dele

I think there is a perception of Dyche that he is not intelligent because of the style that Burnley played (pragmatic in my view) and his gruff voice, but the more I hear him talk the more I am impressed by him. He comes across as level headed, modest and intelligent. Hopefully he is building a relationship with Dele that helps Dele with his recovery and puts him in a good place to re-ignite his career
Also could be playing the long game. Builds a good relationship, Delle wants to stay, does not play the required games to trigger fee to Spurs and then signs on a free when out of contract.

Could he play 8 games, be ace and then sign a new contract with no more payments to spurs? Or do transfer deal agreements extend beyond the players contract?
Maybe it does in which case that could be what Dyche referred to when he suggested they may try and renegotiate with Spurs. I.e Delle is out of contract he can go some where else on a free and Spurs don’t get a bean or they settle for a lower fee for him to stay at Everton

Yeah I'm honestly not sure if a transfer agreement of this type outlasts the individuals contract with the club.

Would be a wonderful story if the lad makes a successful comeback.

I want Dele to succeed, and get back to somewhere close to how he was in his pomp. Ideally with us. However, if we were to resign him on a free after his contract ends, it needs to be at a sensible salary - or at least one which is heavily weighted on appearances.

I'm all for giving people a chance, but our financial position is not one where we can throw money about with a realistic expectation of it being worthwhile.
We are all talking about renegotiating the 10m clause with Spurs. A two-year contract for a player on £100k a week would be more than that.

Pretty certain it would be an illegal restriction of trade. Similar to the buyback clauses which have become a feature in recent years, people get confused as these arrangements can't bind the player unless they willingly sign a contract agreeing it. Debatable even then if it could be enforced. Note that's how Livramento went to Newcastle despite Chelsea inserting buyback clauses when they sold to Soton.

He was at goodison last Wednesday signing and laughing with young fans. Looked happy and relaxed!
Apologies not been keeping up with whats going on is he still injured from his return from his last loan and if so do we know what the injury was or is he still not mentally/emotional right to be able to return ?

I would play the negotiation on a more granular pay as you play basis. He plays 10 more you get £10M (£1M a game). We or injury can stop that from happening. You get £0. Why not agree that we pay £150k a game. Our exposure is capped, they potentially get some cash they wouldn’t otherwise

Dyche will bring him on for doucs in the 91st minute in every game costing us 150k

We’d still be on the hook as the payment agreement will last as long as he is registered to us not necessarily just the duration of his first contract.

However, I don’t think there’s anything stopping us releasing him at the end of his contact this summer then re-signing him as a free agent to break the continuous registration. Although in that scenario Dele would be free to make his own mind up on it.

At the scheduled end of Dele's contract no money becomes payable to Tottenham. Any payment agreement will only be applicable when he is still effectively under contract to Tottenham once that ends i.e. end of the season all agreements end so we would not be on the hook for any further payments to Tottenham. The only way we have to pay them anything is if he plays his 8 games this season.

Let him play the last 7 games (as we will be well safe by then!!!), then after that, sign him on a new reasonable, sensible with lots of fitness clauses etc Everton only contract. :)

That's my understanding of it too, the continuous registration is the key bit although I'm unsure what happens with a players registration once they become a free agent. There's something at the back of my head about it still being held by the previous club until he signs with someone else, but that's a vague memory of something from absolutely years ago and a) could be wrong and b) could easily have changed in the time since

I also keep coming back to thinking about the Gareth Barry situation where City worded the contract with us as such that we had to pay them a fee if we signed him as a free agent. Always a chance Spurs have been as clever as that anyway

Pretty sure this just isn’t true. Regardless of the payment terms we’ve bought his permanent registration from Spurs. Renewing a players contract or the contract ending doesn’t alter the contract with the selling club otherwise clubs would play that trick all the time.
