Doesn’t really matter to be fair. Won’t be on massive wages, and the transfer fee is so small that we can let him go pretty much for nothing if it doesn’t work out. If it goes well, we’ve got the security of a decent length contract

I dont believe we need to sign both Gray and Townsend.

Townsend + Gordon would make more sense financially (save the fee and wages) if that was the plan.

Or alternatively another punt like Nkounkou rather than a two club failure at 25.

What kind of output from Gray would convince you he's value for money?

You're very hung up on his "failure" when we made it our (transfer) business at one time to sign players who were deemed talented but not fulfilling potential, and some of them came good for us. Financially this seems exceptionally low-risk to me, and this signing would not in itself prohibit us from going after "bigger" targets if that was our intention. Seems an odd hill to die on.
