Good goal from a truly awful player

I tend to agree with this. He gets a lot of criticism from large swathes of our fan base, but for £1.5m I think he's been a tremendous buy.

He's got pace, technical feel and can finish. The issue is this consistency, although you can say that about many others. With more talent around him, he'd prosper.

Is correct Phil, take him and his goals away and we would have been relegated last season. Can't see why he gets the grief.

We need better but he does have that moment of quality in him and he worked extremely hard defensively.

I said the other day the one positive of Benitez ball is it suited Gray simplifying his game and today he had that back with space to run into.

However it's a consistency thing. He slows it down far too much rather than just acting on instinct and using his pace.

It's why he's never fulfilled his potential.
